"to follow up," is used of investigating or "tracing" a course of events, Luk 1:3, where the writer, humbly differentiating himself from those who possessed an essential apostolic qualification, declares that he "traced the course of all things" (RV) about which he was writing (AV, "having had... understanding, etc.").
