Jabez:
(sorrow).
(1.) Apparently a place at which the families of the scribes resided who belonged to the families of the Kenites (1 Chronicles 2:55).
(2.) The name occurs again in the genealogies of Judah (1 Chronicles 4:9-10) in a passage of remarkable detail inserted in a genealogy again connected with Bethlehem in verse 4.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
