Sisera:
(battle array).
(1.) Captain of the army of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. He himself resided in Harosheth of the Gentiles. The particulars of the rout of Megiddo and of Sisera's flight and death are drawn out under the heads of BARAK, DEBORAH, JAEL, and KISHON. (B.C. 1296) SEE [BARAK], [DEBORAH, 2.], [JAEL], [KISHON].
(2.) After a long interval the name appears in the lists of Nethinim who returned from the captivity with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:53; Nehemiah 7:55). It doubtless tells of Canaanite captives devoted to the lowest offices of the temple. (B.C. before 536)
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
