(I) literally, of giving a blow with the hand, or fist or a weapon, Mat 26:51, RV, "smote" (AV, "struck"); Luk 22:49, 50; Act 7:24; 12:7;

(II) metaphorically,

(a) of judgment meted out to Christ, Mat 26:31; Mar 14:27;

The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
