فَقَالَ الشَّعْبُ رُؤَسَاءُ جِلْعَادَ الْوَاحِدُ لِصَاحِبِهِ: «أَيٌّ هُوَ الرَّجُلُ الَّذِي يَبْتَدِئُ بِمُحَارَبَةِ بَنِي عَمُّونَ؟ فَإِنَّهُ يَكُونُ رَأْسًا لِجَمِيعِ سُكَّانِ جِلْعَادَ».

فَتَدَاوَلَ قَادَةُ إِسْرَائِيلَ فِي مَا بَيْنَهُمْ قَائِلِينَ: «مَنْ يَبْدَأْ فِي شَنِّ الْهُجُومِ عَلَى الْعَمُّونِيِّينَ، يُصْبِحْ رَئِيساً عَلَى جَمِيعِ سُكَّانِ جِلْعَادَ».
