From then on Gideon was called Jerub-baal, which means “Let Baal defend himself,” because he broke down Baal’s altar.

فَدَعَاهُ فِي ذلِكَ الْيَوْمِ «يَرُبَّعْلَ» قَائِلاً: «لِيُقَاتِلْهُ الْبَعْلُ لأَنَّهُ قَدْ هَدَمَ مَذْبَحَهُ».

وَمُنْذُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ دُعِيَ جِدْعُونُ يَرُبَّعْلَ، لأَنَّ يُوآشَ قَالَ: «لِيُقَاتِلْهُ بَعْلٌ»؛ لأَنَّ جِدْعُونَ قَدْ هَدَمَ مَذْبَحَهُ.

Y aquel día llamó él á Gedeón Jerobaal; porque dijo: Pleitee Baal contra el que derribó su altar.
