فَتَكَلَّمَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ الَّتِي ابْنُهَا الْحَيُّ لِلْمَلِكِ، لأَنَّ أَحْشَاءَهَا اضْطَرَمَتْ عَلَى ابْنِهَا، وَقَالَتِ: «اسْتَمِعْ يَا سَيِّدِي. أَعْطُوهَا الْوَلَدَ الْحَيَّ وَلاَ تُمِيتُوهُ». وَأَمَّا تِلْكَ فَقَالَتْ: «لاَ يَكُونُ لِي وَلاَ لَكِ. اُشْطُرُوهُ».

فَالْتَهَبَتْ مَشَاعِرُ الأُمِّ الْحَقِيقِيَّةِ وَقَالَتْ لِلْمَلِكِ: «أَصْغِ يَا سَيِّدِي، أَعْطِهَا الطِّفْلَ وَلا تُمِيتُوهُ». أَمَّا الْمَرْأَةُ الأُخْرَى فَكَانَتْ تَقُولُ: «لَنْ يَكُونَ لَكِ وَلا لِي: اشْطُرُوهُ».
