But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.

وَرَأَى دَاوُدُ عَبِيدَهُ يَتَنَاجَوْنَ، فَفَطِنَ دَاوُدُ أَنَّ الْوَلَدَ قَدْ مَاتَ. فَقَالَ دَاوُدُ لِعَبِيدِهِ: «هَلْ مَاتَ الْوَلَدُ؟» فَقَالُوا: «مَاتَ».

وَإِذْ شَاهَدَ دَاوُدُ رِجَالَ حَاشِيَتِهِ يَتَهَامَسُونَ، أَدْرَكَ أَنَّ الْوَلَدَ قَدْ مَاتَ، فَسَأَلَهُمْ: «هَلْ تُوُفِّيَ الْوَلَدُ؟» فَأَجَابُوا: «نَعَمْ».
