NASB95 (Narrated)
Saul told David, “Here is my oldest daughter Merab. I’ll give her to you as a wife if you will be a warrior for me and fight the LORD’s battles.” But Saul was thinking, “I don’t need to raise a hand against him; let the hand of the Philistines be against him.”
Then Saul H7586 said H559 to David H1732, “Here H2009 is my older H1419 daughter H1323 Merab H4764; I will give H5414 her to you as a wife H802, only H389 be a valiant H2428 man H1121 for me and fight H3898 the LORD’S H3068 battles H4421.” For Saul H7586 thought H559, “My hand H3027 shall not be against him, but let the hand H3027 of the Philistines H6430 be against him.”
Then Saul H7586 said H559 to David H1732, “Here H2009 is my older H1419 daughter H1323 Merab H4764; I will give H5414 her to you as a wife H802; only H389 be a man H1121 of valor H2428 for me and fight H3898 Yahweh’s H3068 battles H4421.” For Saul H7586 thought H559, “My hand H3027 shall not be against him, but let the hand H3027 of the Philistines H6430 be against him.”
Then Saul said to David, “Behold I will give you my older daughter Merab as a wife; only be brave for me and fight the LORD’S battles.” For Saul thought, “My hand shall not be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him.”
