我们不知道泰尔何时以及如何违背了与以色列的盟约，但先知告诉我们他们确实违背了盟约。这种违背盟约的行为使得泰尔将以色列奴隶卖给以东的罪恶行为更加严重。因此，耶和华说他将降火烧毁泰尔的城墙，烧毁她的城堡。这意味着耶和华将摧毁泰尔的堡垒并消除其权力。
事情正如上帝所说。公元前八世纪，亚述人多次袭击泰尔，强迫他们纳贡。公元前 573 年，泰尔向尼布甲尼撒投降，公元前 332 年被亚历山大大帝攻陷。但这座城市最终在公元 1291 年左右被摧毁，当时萨拉森人进攻并击败了它。这应验了以西结的预言：“他们必毁坏泰尔的城墙，拆毁她的塔楼；我必刮去她的瓦砾，使她成为光秃秃的岩石。她必成为海中张网的地方，因为我曾说过，’主神说，她必成为列国的掠物”（以西结书 26:4-5）。
