但以理因遵守上帝的诫命而获得智慧，于是他去拜访国王的护卫队长亚略，后者曾出去杀死巴比伦的贤士。但以理问亚略为何下令如此紧急地杀死所有贤士。
但以理采取谨慎和明辨是非的方法，试图通过与队长讲道理来缓和局势。队长亚略解释了这些智者未能告诉国王他在梦中看到什么以及这意味着什么。因此，但以理请求国王给他一些时间，以便他能向国王宣告梦的解释。
