摩西再次命令以色列人小心，不要在你们看到的每一个祭祀场所献上燔祭。祭祀这个词不在希伯来语文本中，但可以从上下文中推断出来。在第 2 节中，“地方”一词指的是迦南人崇拜异教神和女神的地点。这节经文中的情况可能也是如此。宗主耶和华不希望他的附庸在供奉其他神的地方敬拜、庆祝和欢乐。这包括“高山、丘陵和每一棵青翠树”（申命记 12:2）。
