很多年前，雅各曾祝福犹大成为其他部落的统治者（创世记 49:8-10）。历史表明，犹大产生了许多国王。大卫王来自犹大部落（撒母耳记上 17:12），弥赛亚也将来自犹大部落（民数记 24:17；希伯来书 5:7）。
