在 1-2 节中，为了传达祂的意图，耶和华对摩西说了几件事情。第一，祂显明我再使一样的灾殃临到法老和埃及。前九灾是这一灾的前奏。接下来祂说了灾难的结果，然后他必容你们离开这地。但这一次耶和华说，他容你们去的时候，总要催逼你们都从这地出去。法老会告诉他们离开，不要再回来。所有的以色列人和他们的牲畜都会离开，因法老想让他们彻底离开埃及。
但是，在他们离开之前，摩西要传于百姓的耳中，叫他们男女各人向邻舍要金器银器。换言之，以色列百姓应该去到他们的埃及邻居那里，问他们要金银。事实证明，这些财富是他们去往应许之地的供应，也是网罗。
第三节似乎是背景性信息，是有关已经发生之灾祸的其它果效。第一，耶和华叫百姓在埃及人眼前蒙恩。不仅如此，摩西也在埃及地、法老臣仆，和百姓的眼中看为极大。摩西的公众形象似乎已经转变，不再是一个受羞辱、流亡的前埃及人所转变的以色列领袖，而是一个具有极大能力和正直的人。摩西预言的事情都发生了，他是一个言出必行的人。在这里有一个人未被提及，就是法老。可能是因为法老依然对摩西不屑一顾，依然认为自己是神， 最重要的是他认为自己的本性超越摩西和耶和华。这样的态度将使他付出沉重的代价。
