最后，摩西要把膏油倒在他头上膏他。这么做，是要将亚伦分别出来，委派他在帐幕中供祭司的职分，事奉耶和华。
在亚伦受膏作大祭司之后，他的儿子们需要分别为圣，成为祭司。为此，摩西受吩咐要叫他的儿子来穿衣。首先，他要给他们穿上内袍；然后，给他们束上腰带，包上裹头巾。
仪式的结果是：他们就凭永远的定例得了祭司的职任。这意味着亚伦和他的子孙被耶和华拣选成为祭司，在敬拜中事奉祂和百姓。在弥赛亚国度中，这世系仅限于 "撒督的子孙"，因为他们在 "以色列人走迷离开我的时候…仍看守我的圣所" (以西结书 44:15)。
