亚伦和他儿子们洗身并穿祭司服之后，就是承接圣职仪式的下一步，其中包括献各种祭物。第一种祭物是把公牛牵到会幕前。然后，亚伦和他儿子要按手在公牛的头上。这象征着他们的罪转移到担当他们罪的祭牲身上。所有的这些活动都象征着耶稣要为世人的罪，死在十字架上。
然后，他们要在耶和华面前，在会幕门口，宰这公牛，象征在耶和华同在中的献祭。
公牛被宰杀后，祭司要取些公牛的血，用指头抹在坛的四角上 (出埃及记 27:2)。这可能是在预见耶稣的献祭会遮盖全人类的罪，就是从世上的四角/方而来的人。
然后，他们要把血都倒在坛脚那里。将血洒在坛角上，且倒在坛脚那里。这是在预见耶稣的肋旁被刺，他的血要流出。他的血为我们流出，为我们所有相信的人提供了救赎 (马太福音 26:28；约翰福音 19:34；罗马书 3:25；5:9；以弗所书 1:7)。
然后，祭司要取一切盖脏的脂油与肝上的网子。这脂油可能是肉下方和内脏周围的脂肪。这网子主要指消除身体废物的内脏。另外，也需要取两个腰子和腰子上的脂油。由于两个腰子也涉及消除身体废物的功能，所以也需要清洁。祭司要将这些器官都烧在坛上。
献祭最后一部分涉及的是公牛的皮、肉、粪。祭牲的这些部分都要用火烧在营外。在营外烧，象征祭牲使百姓和他们的罪分开。
总之，这牛是赎罪祭。译为罪的词是 "hatta't"，意思是 "错失把心"。这祭物是为百姓除罪和惩罚的方式，也是耶稣基督除去我们罪孽的预兆。
新约希伯来书也对这一赎罪祭或上升 "祭" 做了等同评论。耶稣在耶路撒冷城外被钉十字架。新约这段经文所给出的应用是：祂的跟随者要与世分别。
