保罗在向听众重申，这因信得救的理还未来以先，犹太人就被看守在律法之下，因为任何试图遵守律法的人都在律法之下（正如保罗在12节所说的）。律法是向导，或者师傅，向人们显示他们需要耶稣，并引我们到基督那里，使我们因信称义。保罗再次强调这一点，在神面前称义只有通过信心。我们不能做什么，我们所遵行的规条不会影响我们作为神儿女的地位。藉着信，我们进入神的家，在祂眼中得以完全。
