每一个利未大祭司都要在主面前献上礼物和祭物（第 3 节）；这是工作的要求。因此，我们的大祭司耶稣理所当然地应该有所奉献。保罗书信的作者写道：所以这位大祭司也必须有所奉献（第 3 节）。
耶稣被派去完成一个更伟大的使命；他没有像利未祭司那样献祭和供奉。利未祭司必须重复献祭（有时是每天献祭，历代志下 8:13），以赎罪并与圣洁的上帝和解，但他们首先必须赎自己的罪。

保罗的作者正在确立，地上的事物是天上的影子，基督绕过了地上祭司和圣殿的限制。他正在展示耶稣的牺牲是一次性的明显和隐含的现实的证据。这是一次完美的牺牲，完全履行并“完成”了赎罪的必要工作，因此不必重复。
当摩西正要 建造圣幕时，上帝警告摩西说： “你要谨慎，作一切物件，都要照着在山上指示你的样式” （第 5 节） （出埃及记 25:40）。在建造圣幕之前，上帝让摩西瞥见了圣幕的原貌，以便他可以仿照圣幕建造圣幕。地上所有的祭司都只是天上事物的模型、复制品和影子（第 5 节）。
耶稣是更好的大祭司，因为他是真实的，不是复制品。他现在在天堂履行他的大祭司职责，调解我们与上帝的关系，正如以下经文所解释的那样。
