在耶利米书7:12-15中，先知耶利米传达了上帝对示罗的提醒，祂首次将祂的名立在那里时，那里所发生的事： “你们要往示罗去，就是我先前立为我名的居所，察看我因我民以色列的罪向这地所行的。” （12节）示罗位于以法莲山区，距离耶路撒冷以北约35英里。它之所以意义重大，是因为在公元前1000年之前的几个世纪里，以色列人在以利及其子孙的领导下在那里敬拜。上帝的子民曾以为他们的圣地将永远受到神的保护，但他们邪恶的行为导致耶和华撤去祂的同在，使这地方沦为废墟。
