这一事件在其它福音记载中并没有对应记载。
耶稣继续他关于天国里寻找或寻不到为大的思想，重新回到这小子(“mikron”)的话题。他说这话的时候，可能还抱着那个小孩子(马太福音18:2)。
你们要小心，不可轻看这小子里的一个。这重申了耶稣所告诉门徒的如下信息：
“凡为我的名接待一个像这小孩子的，就是接待我。凡使这信我的一个小子跌倒的，倒不如把大磨石拴在这人的颈项上，沉在深海里。”
(马可福音18:5-6)
我们不应当轻看或藐视这小子们，而应当珍惜和大大地尊重他们。
耶稣启示了为什么我们不可轻看他们的一个原因。他所说的原因是：因为他们的使者在天上，常见我天父的面。耶稣说，这小子由天上他们的使者所代表。他们的使者常在耶稣父的面前，得到祂的全心关注。发生在这小子身上的任何事，包括某人对待他们的每一种方式，都不会被神忽视或不被祂报答。因此，要小心，不可轻看这小子里的一个。
在此，考虑到耶稣所言的上下文，他很可能指的是字面意义上小孩子有守护的天使。但是，这一原则可能也适用于地位较低的人，这是一个非常令人欣慰的思想。它可能意味着，世界所不尊重的人、无法因所施予他们的服事而回报我们的人，拥有如此之大的价值，以至神安排天使来守护他们。记住这一点可能会帮助我们改变谁真正有价值的观点。
