神按不同的方式赐我们恩赐，按我们所得的恩赐，各有不同，我们各人的能力都很独特。在此，保罗谈论的是我们的属灵恩赐；这些是神赋予我们的能力，为要作活祭般地 (1 节) 服侍其他信徒 (教会)，而且各人都当按其恩赐操练。保罗给出了一个简短的恩赐列表，如果我们有说预言的恩赐 (说真理、讲道)，就当照着信心的程度使用这恩赐说预言；如果是作执事，就当专一执事；如果是作教导的，就当专一教导；如果是作劝化的 (鼓励)，就当专一劝化；施舍的，就当诚实；治理的，就当殷勤；怜悯人的，就当甘心。我们当使用各人的恩赐来彼此服侍。用保罗身体的类比来讲，如果我们是一只脚，就不应当试图成为眼睛-我们必须谦卑地了解神赐给我们的是什么，以及如何使用它。
对我们多数人而言，很难 "以现实来看" (也就是谦卑地来看) 我们的恩赐是什么。我们倾向于贬低对我们而言容易的东西，认为 "这太简单了，任何人都可以做"。然而，现实是，对我们容易的东西通常对其他人非常困难。对我们容易的事，通常是因为我们在这一领域有恩赐。我们的任务是对自己的恩赐达到一种自我意识的水平，这样我们就可以有效地应用它们来服侍他人，好使我们在日常生活中成为活祭。
