保罗谈到了其它差异，在此是关于宗教习俗的。有些信心软弱之人看这日比那日强，认为某些日子比其它日子更加圣洁，而有人看日日都是一样。有些现代基督徒非常认真地对待大斋节期 (Lent)，而有些人则将其忽略。每一种都可以，但他心里要意见坚定 (5 节)。另一个关键是感恩，无论哪些日子要庆祝或如何庆祝，守日的人是为主守的。吃的人是为主吃的，因他感谢神；不吃的人是为主不吃的，也感谢神。
这同样应用于食物。无论决定吃什么，关键是要感恩。内心的态度是关键。
之后保罗在本章的 14 节写道，"我凭着主耶稣确知深信，凡物本来没有不洁净的，"但他承认对于有些软弱的信徒，仍然有些物质或习俗，如果沉溺于或放弃，会伤害他们与神同行。
耶稣自己被法利赛人批评，说他违背了安息日的一个规条，他的回应是，"安息日是为人设立的，人不是为安息日设立的" (马可福音 2:27)。安息日是神设立让我们欢喜的日子。难道这意味着我们将安息日的原则置之门外了吗？不是的，我们需要休息，需要把给神的时间分别出来。但只有一种方式吗？不是。保罗描述了信徒可以操练信心的不同方式，所有都是为神而做的，不是为自己。
既或我们在某些方面有不同的做法，我们都当以信心和感谢神的方式生活。保罗不想让我们因差异而落入彼此论断的情境，正如他在接下来的经文中所说的一样。他在这段经文中的重点是无论生死，我们都是属于主的，我们没有一个人为自己活，也没有一个人为自己死。我们若活着，是为主而活；若死了，是为主而死。所以，我们或活或死总是主的人。他期待我们每天为主而活，而非因别人信心软弱或他们传统老式的宗教习俗而藐视他人。基督死了，又活了，为要作死人并活人的主。
