第二次提到 "得着/收养" 使人再次想起罗马人收养的第一阶段，即在 14 岁时被置于儿子的地位，具有投票权。每一位信徒将获得新的、复活的身体。有些信徒，就是那些与基督同受苦的人，也将获得与基督同作王的产业为赏赐 (罗马书 8:17 下)。
保罗正在告诉他的听众，就是在罗马的信徒，我们 (信徒) 也叹息，且急切地等待我们的身体得赎，与受造物一样。如果我们聆听圣灵，这盼望就在我们里面。一旦人相信耶稣，圣灵就被赐予信徒 (以弗所书 1:3)。我们有圣灵初结的果子，这圣灵是我们的初结果子，是我们相信基督后第一个真实的益处。然而，就是有圣灵的信徒，我们也是自己心里叹息，等候得着儿子的名分，乃是我们的身体得赎 (当神赐我们新的身体时)。即使有圣灵和在基督里的盼望，我们还是暂时被旧的、有罪的、必死的肉体困住。我们希望有一天被完全恢复为神的设计，在那里完全脱离罪和痛苦，和谐地与彼此和神在一起。这是保罗在说得着儿子的名分时所指的，那时我们成为神的后嗣，进入祂的同在中，被赋予新的身体。作为信徒，我们是神的儿女，无条件地成为神的后嗣，并接受新的身体。
每一位信徒都已经得救，脱离了地狱，进入天堂，并且将来要得到没有罪性的新身体。有些信徒将得到额外的奖赏，正如我们在 17 节所看到的一样。
