The Bible Says
Proverbs 12:11 Meaning

In Proverbs 12:11, Solomon writes, He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, but he who pursues worthless things lacks sense (v. 11). This proverb returns to the theme of diligent stewardship. Faithful work often leads to provision.

The one who tills his land is attending to the field entrusted to him. He works the place God has placed under his care, and through that labor he will have plenty of bread. The verse does not romanticize labor; it simply affirms its ordinary fruitfulness.

The person who pursues worthless things, however, lacks sense. He chases distractions, fantasies, or empty pursuits instead of meaningful stewardship. Proverbs repeatedly warns that lack is often linked not merely to hard circumstances, but to misplaced attention and neglected responsibility.
