In Proverbs 12:12, Solomon says, The wicked man desires the booty of evil men, but the root of the righteous yields fruit (v. 12). The wicked are attracted to what evil appears to gain. They want the outcome without regard for the path.
To desire the booty of evil men is to envy the spoils produced by unrighteousness. This reflects a heart captivated by short-term reward rather than long-term truth. It is one more form of deception: seeing gain and forgetting the ruin attached to it.
The root of the righteous, by contrast, yields fruit. Righteousness does not merely seize; it produces. Like a healthy root feeding a living tree, righteousness creates steady, life-giving results over time. This is the contrast between grasping and fruitful stability.
