In Proverbs 13:21, Solomon writes, Adversity pursues sinners, but the righteous will be rewarded with prosperity (v. 21). This proverb presents a picture of consequences with strong movement: adversity chases sin, while blessing comes to righteousness.
To say adversity pursues sinners means sin is not static, but it generates trouble that follows the one who embraces it. Wickedness invites breakdown, restlessness, and painful consequence. A sinner may try to outrun adversity, but the path itself keeps producing it.
The righteous, by contrast, will be rewarded with prosperity. Prosperity here includes well-being, stability, and the fitting fruit of wise living. This is not a simplistic promise of wealth, but a wisdom principle: righteousness moves toward wholeness, while sin attracts trouble.
