LXX Concordance for ἐκάλεσεν

God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” There was an evening, and there was a morning: one day.

God called the expanse “sky.”[fn] Evening came and then morning: the second day.

God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of the water he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

The LORD God formed out of the ground every wild animal and every bird of the sky, and brought each to the man to see what he would call it. And whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.

So the LORD God called out to the man and said to him, “Where are you? ”

The man named his wife Eve[fn] because she was the mother of all the living.

So she named the LORD who spoke to her: “You are El-roi,”[fn] for she said, “In this place, have I actually seen the one who sees me? ”[fn]

“Hurry up! Run to it, for I cannot do anything until you get there.” Therefore the name of the city is Zoar.[fn]

The firstborn gave birth to a son and named him Moab.[fn] He is the father of the Moabites of today.

Early in the morning Abimelech got up, called all his servants together, and personally[fn] told them all these things, and the men were terrified.

Abraham named his son who was born to him ​— ​the one Sarah bore to him ​— ​Isaac.

God heard the boy crying, and the[fn] angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What's wrong, Hagar? Don't be afraid, for God has heard the boy crying from the place where he is.

But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham! ”

He replied, “Here I am.”

And Abraham named that place The LORD Will Provide,[fn] so today it is said, “It will be provided[fn] on the LORD's mountain.”

After this, his brother came out grasping Esau's heel with his hand. So he was named Jacob.[fn] Isaac was sixty years old when they were born.

Abimelech sent for Isaac and said, “So she is really your wife! How could you say, ‘She is my sister'? ”

Isaac answered him, “Because I thought I might die on account of her.”

But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac's herdsmen and said, “The water is ours! ” So he named the well Esek[fn] because they argued with him.

He called it Sheba.[fn] Therefore the name of the city is still Beer-sheba[fn] today.

When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could not see, he called his older son Esau and said to him, “My son.”

And he answered, “Here I am.”

When the words of her older son Esau were reported to Rebekah, she summoned her younger son Jacob and said to him, “Listen, your brother Esau is consoling himself by planning to kill you.

and named the place Bethel,[fn] though previously the city was named Luz.

Leah conceived, gave birth to a son, and named him Reuben,[fn] for she said, “The LORD has seen my affliction; surely my husband will love me now.”

Rachel said, “God has vindicated me; yes, he has heard me and given me a son,” so she named him Dan.[fn]

Rachel said, “In my wrestlings with God,[fn] I have wrestled with my sister and won,” and she named him Naphtali.[fn]

Leah said, “I am happy that the women call me happy,” so she named him Asher.[fn]

Leah said, “God has rewarded me for giving my slave to my husband,” and she named him Issachar.[fn]

“God has given me a good gift,” Leah said. “This time my husband will honor me because I have borne six sons for him,” and she named him Zebulun.[fn]

She named him Joseph[fn] and said, “May the LORD add another son to me.”

Jacob had Rachel and Leah called to the field where his flocks were.

Laban named the mound Jegar-sahadutha, but Jacob named it Galeed.[fn]

Then Jacob offered a sacrifice on the mountain and invited his relatives to eat a meal. So they ate a meal and spent the night on the mountain.

When he saw them, Jacob said, “This is God's camp.” So he called that place Mahanaim.[fn]

Jacob then named the place Peniel,[fn] “For I have seen God face to face,” he said, “yet my life has been spared.”

but Jacob went to Succoth. He built a house for himself and shelters for his livestock; that is why the place was called Succoth.[fn]

Jacob built an altar there and called the place El-bethel[fn] because it was there that God had revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother.

Jacob named the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.

With her last breath ​— ​for she was dying ​— ​she named him Ben-oni,[fn] but his father called him Benjamin.[fn]

She conceived and gave birth to a son, and he named him Er.

But then he pulled his hand back, out came his brother, and she said, “What a breakout you have made for yourself! ” So he was named Perez.[fn]

she called her household servants. “Look,” she said to them, “my husband brought a Hebrew man to make fools of us. He came to me so he could sleep with me, and I screamed as loud as I could.

When morning came, he was troubled, so he summoned all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but no one could interpret them for him.

Then Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and they quickly brought him from the dungeon.[fn] He shaved, changed his clothes, and went to Pharaoh.

Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-paneah and gave him a wife, Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest at On.[fn] And Joseph went throughout[fn] the land of Egypt.

Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh[fn] and said, “God has made me forget all my hardship and my whole family.”

When the time approached for him to die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have found favor with you, put your hand under my thigh and promise me that you will deal with me in kindness and faithfulness. Do not bury me in Egypt.

Then Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather around, and I will tell you what will happen to you in the days to come.[fn]

When the Canaanite inhabitants of the land saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, “This is a solemn mourning on the part of the Egyptians.” Therefore the place is named Abel-mizraim.[fn] It is across the Jordan.

So the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this and let the boys live? ”

“Go,” Pharaoh's daughter told her. So the girl went and called the boy's mother.

When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from the bush, “Moses, Moses! ”

“Here I am,” he answered.

Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Appeal to the LORD to remove the frogs from me and my people. Then I will let the people go and they can sacrifice to the LORD.”

Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go sacrifice to your God within the country.”

Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron. “I have sinned this time,” he said to them. “The LORD is the righteous one, and I and my people are the guilty ones.

Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go, worship the LORD. Even your families may go with you; only your flocks and herds must stay behind.”

Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go, select an animal from the flock according to your families, and slaughter the Passover animal.

He summoned Moses and Aaron during the night and said, “Get out immediately from among my people, both you and the Israelites, and go, worship the LORD as you have said.

Moses went up the mountain to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain: “This is what you must say to the house of Jacob and explain to the Israelites:

After Moses came back, he summoned the elders of the people and set before them all these words that the LORD had commanded him.

The LORD came down on Mount Sinai at the top of the mountain. Then the LORD summoned Moses to the top of the mountain, and he went up.

The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day he called to Moses from the cloud.

The LORD came down in a cloud, stood with him there, and proclaimed his name, “the LORD.”

But Moses called out to them, so Aaron and all the leaders of the community returned to him, and Moses spoke to them.

So Moses summoned Bezalel, Oholiab, and every skilled person in whose heart the LORD had placed wisdom, all whose hearts moved them, to come to the work and do it.

On the eighth day Moses summoned Aaron, his sons, and the elders of Israel.

Moses summoned Mishael and Elzaphan, sons of Aaron's uncle Uzziel, and said to them, “Come here and carry your relatives away from the front of the sanctuary to a place outside the camp.”

Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, “Israel, listen to the statutes and ordinances I am proclaiming as you hear them today. Learn and follow them carefully.

Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, “You have seen with your own eyes everything the LORD did in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to his entire land.

Moses then summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you will go with[fn] this people into the land the LORD swore to give to their ancestors. You will enable them to take possession of it.

The LORD then said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the disgrace of Egypt from you.” Therefore, that place is still called Gilgal[fn] today.

“Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent for Balaam son of Beor to curse you,

Then the man went to the land of the Hittites, built a town, and named it Luz. That is its name still today.

She summoned Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “Hasn't the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded you, ‘Go, deploy the troops on Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men from the Naphtalites and Zebulunites?

Sisera summoned all his nine hundred iron chariots and all the troops who were with him from Harosheth of the Nations to the Wadi Kishon.

So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD Is Peace.[fn] It is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites today.

That day Gideon was called Jerubbaal, since Joash said, “Let Baal contend with him,” because he tore down his altar.

When they told Jotham, he climbed to the top of Mount Gerizim, raised his voice, and called to them:

Listen to me, citizens of Shechem,

and may God listen to you:

He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys. They had thirty towns[fn] in Gilead, which are still called Jair's Villages[fn] today.

So the woman gave birth to a son and named him Samson. The boy grew, and the LORD blessed him.

When he finished speaking, he threw away the jawbone and named that place Jawbone Hill.[fn]

When Delilah realized that he had told her the whole truth, she sent this message to the Philistine leaders: “Come one more time, for he has told me the whole truth.” The Philistine leaders came to her and brought the silver with them.

After some time,[fn] Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel,[fn] because she said, “I requested him from the LORD.”

Then the LORD called Samuel,[fn] and he answered, “Here I am.”

Once again the LORD called, “Samuel! ”

Samuel got up, went to Eli, and said, “Here I am; you called me.”

“I didn't call, my son,” he replied. “Go back and lie down.”

The LORD came, stood there, and called as before, “Samuel, Samuel! ”

Samuel responded, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

She named the boy Ichabod,[fn] saying, “The glory has departed from Israel,” referring to the capture of the ark of God and to the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband.

Afterward, Samuel took a stone and set it upright between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer,[fn] explaining, “The LORD has helped us to this point.”

They got up early, and just before dawn, Samuel called to Saul on the roof, “Get up, and I'll send you on your way! ” Saul got up, and both he and Samuel went outside.

“In peace,” he replied. “I've come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.”[fn] Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.

Jesse called Abinadab and presented him to Samuel. “The LORD hasn't chosen this one either,” Samuel said.

So Jonathan summoned David and told him all these words. Then Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he served him as he did before.

So Achish summoned David and told him, “As the LORD lives, you are an honorable man. I think it is good[fn] to have you fighting[fn] in this unit with me, because I have found no fault in you from the day you came to me until today. But the leaders don't think you are reliable.

Then David summoned one of his servants and said, “Come here and kill him! ” The servant struck him, and he died.

Then Abner called out to Joab, “Must the sword devour forever? Don't you realize this will only end in bitterness? How long before you tell the troops to stop pursuing their brothers? ”

Then the king summoned Saul's attendant Ziba and said to him, “I have given to your master's grandson all that belonged to Saul and his family.

Then David invited Uriah to eat and drink with him, and David got him drunk. He went out in the evening to lie down on his cot with his master's servants, but he did not go home.

Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba; he went to her and slept with her. She gave birth to a son and named[fn] him Solomon.[fn] The LORD loved him,

Instead, he called to the servant who waited on him, “Get this away from me, throw her out, and bolt the door behind her! ”

Two years later, Absalom's sheepshearers were at Baal-hazor near Ephraim, and Absalom invited all the king's sons.

Joab went to the king and told him. So David summoned Absalom, who came to the king and paid homage with his face to the ground before him. Then the king kissed Absalom.

While he was offering the sacrifices, Absalom sent for David's adviser Ahithophel the Gilonite, from his city of Giloh. So the conspiracy grew strong, and the people supporting Absalom continued to increase.

When he was alive, Absalom had taken a pillar and raised it up for himself in the King's Valley, since he thought, “I have no son to preserve the memory of my name.” So he named the pillar after himself. It is still called Absalom's Monument today.

The Gibeonites were not Israelites but rather a remnant of the Amorites. The Israelites had taken an oath concerning them, but Saul had tried to kill them in his zeal for the Israelites and Judah. So David summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them.

Adonijah sacrificed sheep, goats, cattle, and fattened cattle near the stone of Zoheleth, which is next to En-rogel. He invited all his royal brothers and all the men of Judah, the servants of the king,

“He has lavishly sacrificed oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep. He invited all the king's sons, the priest Abiathar, and Joab the commander of the army, but he did not invite your servant Solomon.

“For today he went down and lavishly sacrificed oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep. He invited all the sons of the king, the commanders of the army, and the priest Abiathar. And look! They're eating and drinking in his presence, and they're saying, ‘Long live King Adonijah! '

Then the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Build a house for yourself in Jerusalem and live there, but don't leave there and go anywhere else.

So the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Didn't I make you swear by the LORD and warn you, saying, ‘On the day you leave and go anywhere else, know for sure that you will certainly die'? And you said to me, ‘The sentence is fair; I will obey.'

So he said, “What are these towns you've given me, my brother? ” So he called them the Land of Cabul,[fn] as they are still called today.

Ahab called for Obadiah, who was in charge of the palace. Obadiah was a man who greatly feared the LORD

Then the king of Israel called for all the elders of the land and said, “Recognize[fn] that this one is only looking for trouble, for he demanded my wives, my children, my silver, and my gold, and I didn't turn him down.”

So the king of Israel called an officer and said, “Hurry and get Micaiah son of Imlah! ”

He ordered his attendant Gehazi, “Call this Shunammite woman.” So he called her and she stood before him.

“Call her,” Elisha said. So Gehazi called her, and she stood in the doorway.

She summoned her husband and said, “Please send me one of the servants and one of the donkeys, so I can hurry to the man of God and come back again.”

Elisha called Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite woman.” He called her and she came. Then Elisha said, “Pick up your son.”

The king of Aram was enraged because of this matter, and he called his servants and demanded of them, “Tell me, which one of us is for the king of Israel? ”

The prophet Elisha called one of the sons of the prophets and said, “Tuck your mantle under your belt, take this flask of oil with you, and go to Ramoth-gilead.

So King Joash called the priest Jehoiada and the other priests and asked, “Why haven't you repaired the temple's damage? Since you haven't, don't take any silver from your assessors; instead, hand it over for the repair of the temple.”

Amaziah killed ten thousand Edomites in Salt Valley. He took Sela in battle and called it Joktheel, which is still its name today.

He removed the high places, shattered the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake that Moses made, for until then the Israelites were burning incense to it. It was called Nehushtan.[fn]

Jabez[fn] was more honored than his brothers. His mother named him Jabez and said, “I gave birth to him in pain.”

They assigned by lot the towns named above from the tribes of the descendants of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.

Machir's wife Maacah gave birth to a son, and she named him Peresh. His brother was named Sheresh, and his sons were Ulam and Rekem.

He slept with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. So he named him Beriah, because there had been misfortune in his home.[fn]

Then David took up residence in the stronghold; therefore, it was called the city of David.

David was angry because of the LORD's outburst against Uzzah, so he named that place Outburst Against Uzzah,[fn] as it is still named today.

So the Israelites went up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated the Philistines there. Then David said, “Like a bursting flood, God has used me to burst out against my enemies.” Therefore, they named that place The Lord Bursts Out.[fn]

David summoned the priests Zadok and Abiathar and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.

Then he summoned his son Solomon and charged him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel.

Then he set up the pillars in front of the sanctuary, one on the right and one on the left. He named the one on the right Jachin[fn] and the one on the left Boaz.[fn]

So the king of Israel called an officer and said, “Hurry and get Micaiah son of Imlah! ”

So the king called Jehoiada the high priest and said, “Why haven't you required the Levites to bring from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by the LORD's servant Moses and the assembly of Israel for the tent of the testimony?

Yet Haman controlled himself and went home. He sent for his friends and his wife Zeresh to join him.

He named his first daughter Jemimah, his second Keziah, and his third Keren-happuch.

The Mighty One, God,[fn] the LORD, speaks;

he summons the earth

from the rising of the sun to its setting.

He called down famine against the land

and destroyed the entire food supply.

On that day the Lord GOD of Armies

called for weeping, for wailing, for shaven heads,

and for the wearing of sackcloth.

“Who has stirred up someone from the east?

In righteousness he calls him to serve.[fn][fn]

The LORD hands nations over to him,

and he subdues kings.

He makes them like dust with his sword,

like wind-driven stubble with his bow.

“Who has performed and done this,

calling the generations from the beginning?

I am the LORD, the first

and with the last ​— ​I am he.”

Coasts and islands,[fn] listen to me;

distant peoples, pay attention.

The LORD called me before I was born.

He named me while I was in my mother's womb.

“The LORD named you

a flourishing olive tree,

beautiful with well-formed fruit.

He has set fire to it,

and its branches are consumed[fn]

with the sound of a mighty tumult.

The next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The LORD does not call you Pashhur, but Terror Is on Every Side,[fn]

So Jeremiah summoned Baruch son of Neriah. At Jeremiah's dictation,[fn] Baruch wrote on a scroll all the words the LORD had spoken to Jeremiah.

King Zedekiah later sent for him and received him, and in his house privately asked him, “Is there a word from the LORD? ”

“There is,” Jeremiah responded. He continued, “You will be handed over to the king of Babylon.”

King Zedekiah sent for the prophet Jeremiah and received him at the third entrance of the LORD's temple. The king said to Jeremiah, “I am going to ask you something; don't hide anything from me.”

and he summoned Johanan son of Kareah, all the commanders of the armies who were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest.

The Lord has rejected

all the mighty men within me.

He has summoned an army[fn] against me

to crush my young warriors.

The Lord has trampled Virgin Daughter Judah

like grapes in a winepress.

You summon those who terrorize me[fn] on every side,

as if for an appointed festival day;

on the day of the LORD's anger

no one escaped or survived.

My enemy has destroyed

those I nurtured[fn] and reared.

Then the glory of the God of Israel rose from above the cherub where it had been, to the threshold of the temple. He called to the man clothed in linen and carrying writing equipment.

I heard a human voice calling from the middle of the Ulai: “Gabriel, explain the vision to this man.”

The Lord GOD showed me this: The Lord GOD was calling for a judgment by fire. It consumed the great deep and devoured the land.
