After Lot had separated from him, the LORD said to Abram, “Look from the place where you are. Look north and south, east and west,
Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “Listen! I heard your father talking with your brother Esau. He said,
“And he said, ‘Look up and see: all the males that are mating with the flocks are streaked, spotted, and speckled, for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you.
“Come now, let's make a covenant, you and I. Let it be a witness between the two of us.”
Then Israel said to him, “Go and see how your brothers and the flocks are doing, and bring word back to me.” So he sent him from the Hebron Valley, and he went to Shechem.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go up this mountain of the Abarim range[fn] and see the land that I have given the Israelites.
“Go to the top of Pisgah and look to the west, north, south, and east, and see it with your own eyes, for you will not cross the Jordan.
“Go up Mount Nebo in the Abarim range in the land of Moab, across from Jericho, and view the land of Canaan I am giving the Israelites as a possession.
The Philistine leaders went to her and said, “Persuade him to tell you[fn] where his great strength comes from, so we can overpower him, tie him up, and make him helpless. Each of us will then give you 1,100 pieces of silver.”
Jonathan replied, “My father has brought trouble to the land. Just look at how I have renewed energy[fn] because I tasted a little of this honey.
David said to Ahimelech, “Do you have a spear or sword on hand? I didn't even bring my sword or my weapons since the king's mission was urgent.”
“Look, my father! Look at the corner of your robe in my hand, for I cut it off, but I didn't kill you. Recognize[fn] that I've committed no crime or rebellion. I haven't sinned against you even though you are hunting me down to take my life.
“Now consider carefully[fn] what you should do, because there is certain to be trouble for our master and his entire family. He is such a worthless fool nobody can talk to him! ”
“What you have done is not good. As the LORD lives, all of you deserve to die[fn] since you didn't protect your lord, the LORD's anointed. Now look around; where are the king's spear and water jug that were by his head? ”
So Gad went to David, told him the choices, and asked him, “Do you want three[fn] years of famine to come on your land, to flee from your foes three months while they pursue you, or to have a plague in your land three days? Now, consider carefully[fn] what answer I should take back to the one who sent me.”
The prophet approached the king of Israel and said to him, “Go and strengthen yourself, then consider carefully[fn] what you should do, for in the spring the king of Aram will attack you.”
Then he said, “Come with me and see my zeal for the LORD! ” So he let him ride with him in his chariot.
Listen closely, LORD, and hear; open your eyes, LORD, and see. Hear the words that Sennacherib has sent to mock the living God.
“three years of famine, or three months of devastation by your foes with the sword of your enemy overtaking you, or three days of the sword of the LORD — a plague on the land, the angel of the LORD bringing destruction to the whole territory of Israel.' Now decide what answer I should take back to the one who sent me.”
Ornan said to David, “Take it! My lord the king may do whatever he wants.[fn] See, I give the oxen for the burnt offerings, the threshing sledges for the wood, and the wheat for the grain offering — I give it all.”
“Realize now that the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong, and do it.”
Could one who hates justice govern the world?
Will you condemn the mighty Righteous One,
Be gracious to me, LORD;
consider my affliction at the hands of those who hate me.
Lift me up from the gates of death,
Watch the blameless and observe the upright,
for the person of peace will have a future.[fn]
Listen, daughter, pay attention and consider:
Forget your people and your father's house,
Consider how I love your precepts;
LORD, give me life according to your faithful love.
Can one say about anything,
“Look, this is new”?
It has already existed in the ages before us.
I said to myself, “Go ahead, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy what is good.” But it turned out to be futile.
“Look,” says the Teacher, “I have discovered this by adding one thing to another to find out the explanation,
“Only see this: I have discovered that God made people upright, but they pursued many schemes.”
Enjoy life with the wife you love all the days of your fleeting[fn] life, which has been given to you under the sun, all your fleeting days. For that is your portion in life and in your struggle under the sun.
Listen closely, LORD, and hear; open your eyes, LORD, and see. Hear all the words that Sennacherib has sent to mock the living God.
“Look up, and look around.
They all gather together; they come to you.
As I live” —
this is the LORD's declaration —
“you will wear all your children[fn] as jewelry,
and put them on as a bride does.
Raise your eyes and look around:
they all gather and come to you;
your sons will come from far away,
and your daughters on the hips of nursing mothers.
Look down from heaven and see
from your lofty home — holy and beautiful.
Where is your zeal and your might?
Your yearning[fn] and your compassion
are withheld from me.
Your own evil will discipline you;
your own apostasies will reprimand you.
Recognize[fn] how evil and bitter it is
for you to abandon the LORD your God
and to have no fear of me.
This is the declaration
of the Lord GOD of Armies.
How can you protest, “I am not defiled;
I have not followed the Baals”?
Look at your behavior in the valley;
acknowledge what you have done.
You are a swift young camel
twisting and turning on her way,
Look up and see
those coming from the north.
Where is the flock entrusted to you,
the sheep that were your pride?
He spoke to me: “Son of man, look with your eyes, listen with your ears, and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for you have been brought here so that I might show it to you. Report everything you see to the house of Israel.”
The LORD said to me, “Son of man, pay attention; look with your eyes and listen with your ears to everything I tell you about all the statutes and laws of the LORD's temple. Take careful note of the entrance of the temple along with all the exits of the sanctuary.
Listen closely,[fn] my God, and hear. Open your eyes and see our desolations and the city that bears your name. For we are not presenting our petitions before you based on our righteous acts, but based on your abundant compassion.
