Pharaoh's officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh, so the woman was taken to Pharaoh's household.

Meanwhile, the Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and the captain of the guards.

Now Joseph had been taken to Egypt. An Egyptian named Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and the captain of the guards, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him there.

“Pharaoh's cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand.”

“In just three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position. You will put Pharaoh's cup in his hand the way you used to when you were his cupbearer.

On the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, he gave a feast for all his servants. He elevated[fn] the chief cupbearer and the chief baker among his servants.

Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “Pharaoh's dreams mean the same thing. God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do.

“Let them gather all the excess food during these good years that are coming. Under Pharaoh's authority, store the grain in the cities, so they may preserve it as food.

The proposal pleased Pharaoh and all his servants,

Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph left Pharaoh's presence and traveled throughout the land of Egypt.

“This is how you will be tested: As surely as Pharaoh lives, you will not leave this place unless your youngest brother comes here.

But Judah approached him and said, “My lord, please let your servant speak personally to my lord. Do not be angry with your servant, for you are like Pharaoh.

But he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard it, and also Pharaoh's household heard it.

When the news reached Pharaoh's palace, “Joseph's brothers have come,” Pharaoh and his servants were pleased.

The sons of Israel did this. Joseph gave them wagons as Pharaoh had commanded, and he gave them provisions for the journey.

He took five of his brothers and presented them to Pharaoh.

Joseph then brought his father Jacob and presented him to Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

Joseph collected all the silver to be found in the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan in exchange for the grain they were purchasing, and he brought the silver to Pharaoh's palace.

“Why should we die here in front of you ​— ​both us and our land? Buy us and our land in exchange for food. Then we with our land will become Pharaoh's slaves. Give us seed so that we can live and not die, and so that the land won't become desolate.”

The only land he did not acquire belonged to the priests, for they had an allowance from Pharaoh. They ate from their allowance that Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their land.

“You have saved our lives,” they said. “We have found favor with our lord and will be Pharaoh's slaves.”

When the days of mourning were over, Joseph said to Pharaoh's household, “If I have found favor with you, please tell Pharaoh that

Then Joseph went to bury his father, and all Pharaoh's servants, the elders of his household, and all the elders of the land of Egypt went with him,

Pharaoh's daughter went down to bathe at the Nile while her servant girls walked along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds, sent her slave girl, took it,

When Pharaoh heard about this, he tried to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in the land of Midian, and sat down by a well.

The LORD instructed Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, make sure you do before Pharaoh all the wonders that I have put within your power. But I will harden his heart[fn] so that he won't let the people go.

Then the Israelite foremen, whom Pharaoh's slave drivers had set over the people, were beaten and asked, “Why haven't you finished making your prescribed number of bricks yesterday or today, as you did before? ”

When they left Pharaoh, they confronted Moses and Aaron, who stood waiting to meet them.

“But I will harden Pharaoh's heart and multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.

“When Pharaoh tells you, ‘Perform a miracle,' tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh. It will become a serpent.' ”

However, Pharaoh's heart was hard, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.

Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded; in the sight of Pharaoh and his officials, he raised the staff and struck the water in the Nile, and all the water in the Nile was turned to blood.

But the magicians of Egypt did the same thing by their occult practices. So Pharaoh's heart was hard, and he would not listen to them, as the LORD had said.

Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor of choosing. When should I appeal on behalf of you, your officials, and your people, that the frogs be taken away from you and your houses, and remain only in the Nile? ”

After Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, Moses cried out to the LORD for help concerning the frogs that he had brought against Pharaoh.

The LORD said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning and present yourself to Pharaoh when you see him going out to the water. Tell him: This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may worship[fn] me.

And the LORD did this. Thick swarms of flies went into Pharaoh's palace and his officials' houses. Throughout Egypt the land was ruined because of the swarms of flies.

Then Moses left Pharaoh's presence and appealed to the LORD.

Pharaoh sent messengers who saw that not a single one of the Israelite livestock was dead. But Pharaoh's heart was hard, and he did not let the people go.

So they took furnace soot and stood before Pharaoh. Moses threw it toward heaven, and it became festering boils on people and animals.

But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had told Moses.

Those among Pharaoh's officials who feared the word of the LORD made their servants and livestock flee to shelters,

Moses left Pharaoh and the city, and spread out his hands to the LORD. Then the thunder and hail ceased, and rain no longer poured down on the land.

So Pharaoh's heart was hard, and he did not let the Israelites go, as the LORD had said through Moses.

So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and told him, “This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may worship me.

“They will fill your houses, all your officials' houses, and the houses of all the Egyptians ​— ​something your fathers and grandfathers never saw since the time they occupied the land until today.” Then he turned and left Pharaoh's presence.

“No, go ​— ​just able-bodied men ​— ​worship the LORD, since that's what you want.” And they were driven from Pharaoh's presence.

Moses left Pharaoh's presence and appealed to the LORD.

But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the Israelites go.

But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he was unwilling to let them go.

The LORD said[fn] to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you go from here. When he lets you go,[fn] he will drive you out of here.

The LORD gave[fn] the people favor with the Egyptians. In addition, Moses himself was very highly regarded[fn] in the land of Egypt by[fn] Pharaoh's officials and the people.

“and every firstborn male in the land of Egypt will die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the servant girl who is at the grindstones, as well as every firstborn of the livestock.

“All these officials of yours will come down to me and bow before me, saying: Get out, you and all the people who follow you.[fn] After that, I will get out.” And he went out from Pharaoh's presence fiercely angry.

Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let the Israelites go out of his land.

Now at midnight the LORD struck every firstborn male in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the prisoner who was in the dungeon, and every firstborn of the livestock.

“I will harden Pharaoh's heart so that he will pursue them. Then I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” So the Israelites did this.

The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the Israelites, who were going out defiantly.[fn]

“As for me, I am going to harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them, and I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh, all his army, and his chariots and horsemen.

The Egyptians set out in pursuit ​— ​all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen ​— ​and went into the sea after them.

The water came back and covered the chariots and horsemen, plus the entire army of Pharaoh that had gone after them into the sea. Not even one of them survived.

He threw Pharaoh's chariots

and his army into the sea;

the elite of his officers

were drowned in the Red Sea.

When Pharaoh's horses with his chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the water of the sea back over them. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.

and the other Eliezer (because he had said, “The God of my father was my helper and rescued me from Pharaoh's sword”).[fn]

Moses recounted to his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel's sake, all the hardships that confronted them on the way, and how the LORD rescued them.

“But because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors, he brought you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the place of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

A man of God came to Eli and said to him, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Didn't I reveal myself to your forefather's family[fn] when they were in Egypt and belonged to Pharaoh's palace?

and said to the Israelites, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I brought Israel out of Egypt, and I rescued you from the power of the Egyptians and all the kingdoms that were oppressing you.'

Emissaries of all peoples, sent by every king on earth who had heard of his wisdom, came to listen to Solomon's wisdom.

Solomon's own palace where he would live, in the other courtyard behind the hall, was of similar construction. And he made a house like this hall for Pharaoh's daughter, his wife.[fn]

Pharaoh's daughter moved from the city of David to the house that Solomon had built for her; he then built the terraces.

King Solomon loved many foreign women in addition to Pharaoh's daughter: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women

Pharaoh liked Hadad so much[fn] that he gave him a wife, the sister of his own wife, Queen Tahpenes.

This disaster happened because the people of Israel sinned against the LORD their God who had brought them out of the land of Egypt from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt and because they worshiped[fn] other gods.

So Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh, but at Pharaoh's command he taxed the land to give it. He exacted the silver and the gold from the common people, each according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Neco.

These were the sons of Pharaoh's daughter Bithiah; Mered had married her. His Judean wife gave birth to Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah.

Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh from the city of David to the house he had built for her, for he said, “My wife must not live in the house[fn] of King David of Israel because the places the ark of the LORD has come into are holy.”

Then King Neco of Egypt made Jehoahaz's brother Eliakim king over Judah and Jerusalem and changed Eliakim's name to Jehoiakim. But Neco took his brother Jehoahaz and brought him to Egypt.

I compare you, my darling,

to a[fn] mare among Pharaoh's chariots.

Without asking my advice

they set out to go down to Egypt

in order to seek shelter under Pharaoh's protection

and take refuge in Egypt's shadow.

Pharaoh's army had left Egypt, and when the Chaldeans, who were besieging Jerusalem, heard the report, they withdrew from Jerusalem.

“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: This is what you will say to Judah's king, who is sending you to inquire of me: ‘Watch: Pharaoh's army, which has come out to help you, is going to return to its own land of Egypt.

When the Chaldean army withdrew from Jerusalem because of Pharaoh's army,

“Pick up some large stones and set them in the mortar of the brick pavement that is at the opening of Pharaoh's palace at Tahpanhes. Do this in the sight of the Judean men

About Egypt and the army of Pharaoh Neco, Egypt's king, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates River by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in the fourth year of Judah's King Jehoiakim son of Josiah:

There they will cry out,

“Pharaoh king of Egypt was all noise;

he let the opportune moment pass.”

“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Look, it has not been bandaged ​— ​no medicine has been applied and no splint put on to bandage it so that it can grow strong enough to handle a sword.

“I will strengthen the arms of Babylon's king, but Pharaoh's arms will fall. They will know that I am the LORD when I place my sword in the hand of Babylon's king and he wields it against the land of Egypt.

So Pharaoh sent for Abram and said, “What have you done to me? Why didn't you tell me she was your wife?

Then Pharaoh gave his men orders about him, and they sent him away with his wife and all he had.

Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker,

“In the top basket were all sorts of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”

“In just three days Pharaoh will lift up your head ​— ​from off you ​— ​and hang you on a tree.[fn] Then the birds will eat the flesh from your body.”[fn]

At the end of two years Pharaoh had a dream: He was standing beside the Nile,

The sickly, thin cows ate the healthy, well-fed cows. Then Pharaoh woke up.

The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven plump, full ones. Then Pharaoh woke up, and it was only a dream.

“Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and he put me and the chief baker in the custody of the captain of the guards.

Then Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and they quickly brought him from the dungeon.[fn] He shaved, changed his clothes, and went to Pharaoh.

So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “In my dream I was standing on the bank of the Nile,

“Let Pharaoh do this: Let him appoint overseers over the land and take a fifth of the harvest of the land of Egypt during the seven years of abundance.

and he said to them, “Can we find anyone like this, a man who has God's spirit[fn] in him? ”

Pharaoh also said to Joseph, “See, I am placing you over all the land of Egypt.”

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh and no one will be able to raise his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt without your permission.”

When the whole land of Egypt was stricken with famine, the people cried out to Pharaoh for food. Pharaoh told all Egypt, “Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you.”

When the news reached Pharaoh's palace, “Joseph's brothers have come,” Pharaoh and his servants were pleased.

“When Pharaoh addresses you and asks, ‘What is your occupation? '

And Pharaoh asked his brothers, “What is your occupation? ”

They said to Pharaoh, “Your servants, both we and our ancestors, are shepherds.”

Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Now that your father and brothers have come to you,

Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How many years have you lived? ”

Then Joseph settled his father and brothers in the land of Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land, the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

The only land he did not acquire belonged to the priests, for they had an allowance from Pharaoh. They ate from their allowance that Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their land.

So Pharaoh said, “Go and bury your father in keeping with your oath.”

Pharaoh then commanded all his people, “You must throw every son born to the Hebrews into the Nile, but let every daughter live.”

When Pharaoh heard about this, he tried to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in the land of Midian, and sat down by a well.

“However, I know that the king of Egypt will not allow you to go, even under force from a strong hand.

But Pharaoh responded, “Who is the LORD that I should obey him by letting Israel go? I don't know[fn] the LORD, and besides, I will not let Israel go.”

Pharaoh also said, “Look, the people of the land are so numerous, and you would stop them from their labor.”

So the overseers and foremen of the people went out and said to them, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I am not giving you straw.

But Moses said in the LORD's presence, “If the Israelites will not listen to me, then how will Pharaoh listen to me, since I am such a poor speaker? ”[fn]

But Moses replied in the LORD's presence, “Since I am such a poor speaker, how will Pharaoh listen to me? ”

“Pharaoh will not listen to you, but I will put my hand into Egypt and bring the military divisions of my people the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment.

“When Pharaoh tells you, ‘Perform a miracle,' tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh. It will become a serpent.' ”

But then Pharaoh called the wise men and sorcerers ​— ​the magicians of Egypt, and they also did the same thing by their occult practices.

Pharaoh turned around, went into his palace, and didn't take even this to heart.

Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Appeal to the LORD to remove the frogs from me and my people. Then I will let the people go and they can sacrifice to the LORD.”

After Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, Moses cried out to the LORD for help concerning the frogs that he had brought against Pharaoh.

But when Pharaoh saw there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to them, as the LORD had said.

“This is the finger of God,” the magicians said to Pharaoh. But Pharaoh's heart was hard, and he would not listen to them, as the LORD had said.

Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go sacrifice to your God within the country.”

Pharaoh responded, “I will let you go and sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness, but don't go very far. Make an appeal for me.”

But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also and did not let the people go.

Pharaoh sent messengers who saw that not a single one of the Israelite livestock was dead. But Pharaoh's heart was hard, and he did not let the people go.

Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron. “I have sinned this time,” he said to them. “The LORD is the righteous one, and I and my people are the guilty ones.

When Pharaoh saw that the rain, hail, and thunder had ceased, he sinned again and hardened his heart, he and his officials.

Pharaoh urgently sent for Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you.

Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go, worship the LORD. Even your families may go with you; only your flocks and herds must stay behind.”

Pharaoh said to him, “Leave me! Make sure you never see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you will die.”

The LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not listen to you, so that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”

During the night Pharaoh got up, he along with all his officials and all the Egyptians, and there was a loud wailing throughout Egypt because there wasn't a house without someone dead.

“When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed every firstborn male in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of humans and the firstborn of livestock. That is why I sacrifice to the LORD all the firstborn of the womb that are males, but I redeem all the firstborn of my sons.'

When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them along the road to the land of the Philistines, even though it was nearby; for God said, “The people will change their minds and return to Egypt if they face war.”

“Pharaoh will say of the Israelites: They are wandering around the land in confusion; the wilderness has boxed them in.

So he got his chariot ready and took his troops[fn] with him;

As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and there were the Egyptians coming after them! The Israelites were terrified and cried out to the LORD for help.

However, they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer. So the Canaanites still live in Ephraim today, but they are forced laborers.

“Why harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened theirs? When he afflicted them, didn't they send Israel away, and Israel left?

Emissaries of all peoples, sent by every king on earth who had heard of his wisdom, came to listen to Solomon's wisdom.

But Pharaoh asked him, “What do you lack here with me for you to want to go back to your own country? ”

“Nothing,” he replied, “but please let me leave.”

“Now look, you are relying on Egypt, that splintered reed of a staff that will pierce the hand of anyone who grabs it and leans on it. This is what Pharaoh king of Egypt is to all who rely on him.

During his reign, Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt marched up to help the king of Assyria at the Euphrates River. King Josiah went to confront him, and at Megiddo when Neco saw him he killed him.

Pharaoh Neco imprisoned him at Riblah in the land of Hamath to keep him from reigning in Jerusalem, and he imposed on the land a fine of seventy-five hundred pounds[fn] of silver and seventy-five pounds[fn] of gold.

After all this that Josiah had prepared for the temple, King Neco of Egypt marched up to fight at Carchemish by the Euphrates, and Josiah went out to confront him.

Jehoahaz[fn] was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.

Then King Neco of Egypt made Jehoahaz's brother Eliakim king over Judah and Jerusalem and changed Eliakim's name to Jehoiakim. But Neco took his brother Jehoahaz and brought him to Egypt.

“Look, you are relying on Egypt, that splintered reed of a staff that will pierce the hand of anyone who grabs it and leans on it. This is how Pharaoh king of Egypt is to all who rely on him.

“Pharaoh with his mighty army and vast company will not help him in battle, when ramps are built and siege walls constructed to destroy many lives.

“ ‘Who then are you like in glory and greatness among Eden's trees? You also will be brought down to the underworld to be with the trees of Eden. You will lie among the uncircumcised with those slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his hordes. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.' ”

“Pharaoh will see them

and be comforted over all his hordes —

Pharaoh and his whole army,

slain by the sword.”

“But when all goes well for you, remember that I was with you. Please show kindness to me by mentioning me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this prison.

When morning came, he was troubled, so he summoned all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but no one could interpret them for him.

“I am not able to,” Joseph answered Pharaoh. “It is God who will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.”[fn]

Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “Pharaoh's dreams mean the same thing. God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do.

“It is just as I told Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.

“Therefore it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household, and ruler over all the land of Egypt.

Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's family, “I will go up and inform Pharaoh, telling him, ‘My brothers and my father's family, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.

So Joseph went and informed Pharaoh: “My father and my brothers, with their flocks and herds and all that they own, have come from the land of Canaan and are now in the land of Goshen.”

And Pharaoh asked his brothers, “What is your occupation? ”

They said to Pharaoh, “Your servants, both we and our ancestors, are shepherds.”

Jacob said to Pharaoh, “My pilgrimage has lasted 130 years. My years have been few and hard, and they have not reached the years of my ancestors during their pilgrimages.”

In this way, Joseph acquired all the land in Egypt for Pharaoh, because every Egyptian sold his field since the famine was so severe for them. The land became Pharaoh's,

Joseph said to the people, “Understand today that I have acquired you and your land for Pharaoh. Here is seed for you. Sow it in the land.

So Joseph made it a law, still in effect today in the land of Egypt, that a fifth of the produce belongs to Pharaoh. Only the priests' land does not belong to Pharaoh.

So the Egyptians assigned taskmasters over the Israelites to oppress them with forced labor. They built Pithom and Rameses as supply cities for Pharaoh.

The midwives said to Pharaoh, “The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife can get to them.”

“And you will say to Pharaoh: This is what the LORD says: Israel is my firstborn son.

But the LORD replied to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: because of a strong hand he will let them go, and because of a strong hand he will drive them from his land.”

“Go and tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go from his land.”

The LORD answered Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet.

“This is the finger of God,” the magicians said to Pharaoh. But Pharaoh's heart was hard, and he would not listen to them, as the LORD had said.

“I will harden Pharaoh's heart so that he will pursue them. Then I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” So the Israelites did this.

“As for me, I am going to harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them, and I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh, all his army, and his chariots and horsemen.

Moses recounted to his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel's sake, all the hardships that confronted them on the way, and how the LORD rescued them.

“tell him, ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand.

“do not be afraid of them. Be sure to remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and all Egypt:

“his signs and the works he did in Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt and all his land;

Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, “You have seen with your own eyes everything the LORD did in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to his entire land.

He was unparalleled for all the signs and wonders the LORD sent him to do against the land of Egypt ​— ​to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to all his land ​— ​

So Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh, but at Pharaoh's command he taxed the land to give it. He exacted the silver and the gold from the common people, each according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Neco.

You performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh,

all his officials, and all the people of his land,

for you knew how arrogantly they treated our ancestors.

You made a name for yourself

that endures to this day.

He sent signs and wonders against you, Egypt,

against Pharaoh and all his officials.

Pharaoh's officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh, so the woman was taken to Pharaoh's household.

But the LORD struck Pharaoh and his household with severe plagues because of Abram's wife, Sarai.

So he asked Pharaoh's officers who were in custody with him in his master's house, “Why do you look so sad today? ”

Then the chief cupbearer said to Pharaoh, “Today I remember my faults.

Then Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and they quickly brought him from the dungeon.[fn] He shaved, changed his clothes, and went to Pharaoh.

“Since the dream was given twice to Pharaoh, it means that the matter has been determined by God, and he will carry it out soon.

When the whole land of Egypt was stricken with famine, the people cried out to Pharaoh for food. Pharaoh told all Egypt, “Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you.”

Joseph then brought his father Jacob and presented him to Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

So Jacob blessed Pharaoh and departed from Pharaoh's presence.

“therefore, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”

“They will listen to what you say. Then you, along with the elders of Israel, must go to the king of Egypt and say to him: The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now please let us go on a three-day trip into the wilderness so that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.

Later, Moses and Aaron went in and said to Pharaoh, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival for me in the wilderness.”

So the Israelite foremen went in and cried for help to Pharaoh: “Why are you treating your servants this way?

“Ever since I went in to Pharaoh to speak in your name he has caused trouble for this people, and you haven't rescued your people at all.”

Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them commands concerning both the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt to bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt.

Moses and Aaron were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt in order to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.

he said to him, “I am the LORD; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I am telling you.”

“You must say whatever I command you; then Aaron your brother must declare it to Pharaoh so that he will let the Israelites go from his land.

Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.

“Go to Pharaoh in the morning. When you see him walking out to the water, stand ready to meet him by the bank of the Nile. Take in your hand the staff that turned into a snake.

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh and tell him: This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me.

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh and say to him: This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me.

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his officials so that I may do these miraculous signs of mine among them,[fn]

So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship the LORD your God,” Pharaoh said. “But exactly who will be going? ”

Hadad and his men set out from Midian and went to Paran. They took men with them from Paran and went to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave Hadad a house, ordered that he be given food, and gave him land.

When Hadad heard in Egypt that David rested with his ancestors and that Joab, the commander of the army, was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, “Let me leave, so I may go to my own country.”

but hurled Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea.

His faithful love endures forever.

Pharaoh king of Egypt, his officers, his leaders, all his people,

The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says, “I am about to punish Amon, god of Thebes, along with Pharaoh, Egypt, her gods, and her kings ​— ​Pharaoh and those trusting in him.

“Son of man, face Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all of Egypt.

“Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: Look! I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break his arms, both the strong one and the one already broken, and will make the sword fall from his hand.

“Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his hordes,

‘Who are you like in your greatness?

“Son of man, lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him,

‘You compare yourself to a lion of the nations,

but[fn] you are like a monster[fn] in the seas.

You thrash about in your rivers,

churn up the waters with your feet,

and muddy the[fn] rivers.

“As soon as I leave you,” Moses said, “I will appeal to the LORD, and tomorrow the swarms of flies will depart from Pharaoh, his officials, and his people. But Pharaoh must not act deceptively again by refusing to let the people go and sacrifice to the LORD.”
