I gave them this reply, “The God of the heavens is the one who will grant us success. We, his servants, will start building, but you have no share, right, or historic claim in Jerusalem.”

Your wickedness affects a person like yourself,

and your righteousness, a son of man.[fn]

The faithful town —

what an adulteress[fn] she has become!

Righteousness once dwelt in her,

Then justice will inhabit the wilderness,

and righteousness will dwell in the orchard.

Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good,” for he thought: There will be peace and security during my lifetime.

“By myself I have sworn;

truth has gone from my mouth,

a word that will not be revoked:

Every knee will bow to me,

every tongue will swear allegiance.

If only you had paid attention to my commands.

Then your peace would have been like a river,

and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

The righteous person won't be able to survive by his righteousness on the day he sins.

In the rebellion, the army was given up, together with the regular sacrifice. The horn threw truth to the ground and was successful in what it did.

Lord, righteousness belongs to you, but this day public shame belongs to us: the men of Judah, the residents of Jerusalem, and all Israel ​— ​those who are near and those who are far, in all the countries where you have banished them because of the disloyalty they have shown toward you.

But let justice flow like water,

and righteousness, like an unfailing stream.

My people,

remember what King Balak of Moab proposed,

what Balaam son of Beor answered him,

and what happened from the Acacia Grove[fn] to Gilgal

so that you may acknowledge

the LORD's righteous acts.
