LXX Concordance for ἦλθεν

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (Haran's son), and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram's wife, and they set out together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there.

He went by stages from the Negev to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had formerly been,

In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and defeated the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim,

So Abraham got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took with him two of his young men and his son Isaac. He split wood for a burnt offering and set out to go to the place God had told him about.

Sarah died in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.

As soon as he had seen the ring and the bracelets on his sister's wrists, and when he had heard his sister Rebekah's words ​— ​“The man said this to me! ” ​— ​he went to the man. He was standing there by the camels at the spring.

Once when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau came in from the field exhausted.

As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob and Jacob had left the presence of his father Isaac, his brother Esau arrived from his hunting.

But God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night. “Watch yourself! ” God warned him. “Don't say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.”

After Jacob came from Paddan-aram, he arrived safely at Shechem in the land of Canaan and camped in front of the city.

So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their city and spoke to the men of their city.

So Jacob and all who were with him came to Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.

Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.

Then Israel said to him, “Go and see how your brothers and the flocks are doing, and bring word back to me.” So he sent him from the Hebron Valley, and he went to Shechem.

When Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped off Joseph's robe, the long-sleeved robe that he had on.

She put Joseph's garment beside her until his master came home.

Then Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and they quickly brought him from the dungeon.[fn] He shaved, changed his clothes, and went to Pharaoh.

The steward searched, beginning with the oldest and ending with the youngest, and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.

Israel set out with all that he had and came to Beer-sheba, and he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

Some time after this, Joseph was told, “Your father is weaker.” So he set out with his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro,[fn] the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb,[fn] the mountain of God.

At Rephidim, Amalek[fn] came and fought against Israel.

After Moses came back, he summoned the elders of the people and set before them all these words that the LORD had commanded him.

Then Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the doorway of the tent of meeting. They fell facedown, and the glory of the LORD appeared to them.

When the Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming on the Atharim road, he fought against Israel and captured some prisoners.

But Sihon would not let Israel travel through his territory. Instead, he gathered his whole army and went out to confront Israel in the wilderness. When he came to Jahaz, he fought against Israel.

Then God came to Balaam and asked, “Who are these men with you? ”

God came to Balaam at night and said to him, “Since these men have come to summon you, get up and go with them, but you must only do what I tell you.”

So Joshua and all his troops surprised them at the Waters of Merom and attacked them.

At that time Joshua proceeded to exterminate the Anakim from the hill country ​— ​Hebron, Debir, Anab ​— ​all the hill country of Judah and of Israel. Joshua completely destroyed them with their cities.

After he arrived, he sounded the ram's horn throughout the hill country of Ephraim. The Israelites came down with him from the hill country, and he became their leader.

The angel of the LORD came, and he sat under the oak that was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash, the Abiezrite. His son Gideon was threshing wheat in the winepress in order to hide it from the Midianites.

When Gideon arrived, there was a man telling his friend about a dream. He said, “Listen, I had a dream: a loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp, struck a tent, and it fell. The loaf turned the tent upside down so that it collapsed.”

Gideon and the three hundred men came to the Jordan and crossed it. They were exhausted but still in pursuit.

Gaal son of Ebed came with his brothers and crossed into Shechem, and the citizens of Shechem trusted him.

When Abimelech came to attack the tower, he approached its entrance to set it on fire.

“But when they came from Egypt, Israel traveled through the wilderness to the Red Sea and came to Kadesh.

When Jephthah went to his home in Mizpah, there was his daughter, coming out to meet him with tambourines and dancing! She was his only child; he had no other son or daughter besides her.

Then the woman went and told her husband, “A man of God came to me. He looked like the awe-inspiring angel of God. I didn't ask him where he came from, and he didn't tell me his name.

When he came to Lehi, the Philistines came to meet him shouting. The Spirit of the LORD came powerfully on him, and the ropes that were on his arms and wrists became like burnt flax and fell off.

Early that morning, the woman made her way back, and as it was getting light, she collapsed at the doorway of the man's house where her master was.

They asked, “Which city among the tribes of Israel didn't come to the LORD at Mizpah? ” It turned out that no one from Jabesh-gilead had come to the camp and the assembly.

Later, when Boaz arrived from Bethlehem, he said to the harvesters, “The LORD be with you.”

“The LORD bless you,” they replied.

“She asked, ‘Will you let me gather fallen grain among the bundles behind the harvesters? ' She came and has been on her feet since early morning, except that she rested a little in the shelter.”[fn]

After Boaz ate, drank, and was in good spirits, he went to lie down at the end of the pile of barley, and she came secretly, uncovered his feet, and lay down.

So she lay down at his feet until morning but got up while it was still dark.[fn] Then Boaz said, “Don't let it be known that a[fn] woman came to the threshing floor.”

A man of God came to Eli and said to him, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Didn't I reveal myself to your forefather's family[fn] when they were in Egypt and belonged to Pharaoh's palace?

The LORD came, stood there, and called as before, “Samuel, Samuel! ”

Samuel responded, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

When the troops returned to the camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why did the LORD defeat us today before the Philistines? Let's bring the ark of the LORD's covenant from Shiloh. Then it[fn] will go with us and save us from our enemies.”

When the ark of the covenant of the LORD entered the camp, all the Israelites raised such a loud shout that the ground shook.

That same day, a Benjaminite man ran from the battle and came to Shiloh. His clothes were torn, and there was dirt on his head.

“At this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him ruler over my people Israel. He will save them from the Philistines because I have seen the affliction of my people, for their cry has come to me.”

When Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed his heart,[fn] and all the signs came about that day.

“But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was coming against you, you said to me, ‘No, we must have a king reign over us' ​— ​even though the LORD your God is your king.

Saul came to the city of Amalek and set up an ambush in the wadi.

Samuel did what the LORD directed and went to Bethlehem. When the elders of the town met him, they trembled[fn] and asked, “Do[fn] you come in peace? ”

He came to the location of the arrow that Jonathan had shot, but Jonathan called to him and said, “The arrow is beyond you, isn't it? ”

David fled that day from Saul's presence and went to King Achish of Gath.

Then the prophet Gad said to David, “Don't stay in the stronghold. Leave and return to the land of Judah.” So David left and went to the forest of Hereth.

Then a messenger came to Saul saying, “Come quickly, because the Philistines have raided the land! ”

When Saul came to the sheep pens along the road, a cave was there, and he went in to relieve himself.[fn] David and his men were staying in the recesses of the cave,

When David and his men arrived at the town, they found it burned. Their wives, sons, and daughters had been kidnapped.

David slaughtered them from twilight until the evening of the next day. None of them escaped, except four hundred young men who got on camels and fled.

When David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to his friends, the elders of Judah, saying, “Here is a gift for you from the plunder of the LORD's enemies.”

On the third day a man with torn clothes and dust on his head came from Saul's camp. When he came to David, he fell to the ground and paid homage.

When Abner and twenty men came to David at Hebron, David held a banquet for him and his men.

Joab went to the king and said, “What have you done? Look here, Abner came to you. Why did you dismiss him? Now he's getting away.

Then they came to urge David to eat food while it was still day, but David took an oath: “May God punish me and do so severely if I taste bread or anything else before sunset! ”

So David went to Baal-perazim and defeated them there and said, “Like a bursting flood, the LORD has burst out against my enemies before me.” Therefore, he named that place The Lord Bursts Out.[fn]

Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man could not bring himself to take one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the poor man's lamb and prepared it for his guest.[fn]

Then he went to the king and said, “Your servant has just hired sheepshearers. Will the king and his servants please come with your servant? ”

While they were on the way, a report reached David: “Absalom struck down all the king's sons; not even one of them survived! ”

Then Joab came to Absalom's house and demanded, “Why did your servants set my field on fire? ”

He would get up early and stand beside the road leading to the city gate. Whenever anyone had a grievance to bring before the king for settlement, Absalom called out to him and asked, “What city are you from? ” If he replied, “Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel,”

When King David got to Bahurim, a man belonging to the family of the house of Saul was just coming out. His name was Shimei son of Gera, and he was yelling curses as he approached.

Finally, the king and all the people with him arrived[fn] exhausted, so they rested there.

When David's friend Hushai the Archite came to Absalom, Hushai said to Absalom, “Long live the king! Long live the king! ”

When David came to Mahanaim, Shobi son of Nahash from Rabbah of the Ammonites, Machir son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim

“But Absalom, the man we anointed over us, has died in battle. So why do you say nothing about restoring the king? ”

Then the king returned. When he arrived at the Jordan, Judah came to Gilgal to meet the king and escort him across the Jordan.

Was he not more honored than the Three? He became their commander even though he did not become one of the Three.

He was the most honored of the Thirty, but he did not become one of the Three. David put him in charge of his bodyguard.

Gad came to David that day and said to him, “Go up and set up an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”

Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant? ”

David replied, “To buy the threshing floor from you in order to build an altar to the LORD, so the plague on the people may be halted.”

At that moment, while she was still speaking with the king, the prophet Nathan arrived,

He was still speaking when Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest, suddenly arrived. Adonijah said, “Come in, for you are an important man, and you must be bringing good news.”

The news reached Joab. Since he had supported Adonijah but not Absalom, Joab fled to the LORD's tabernacle and took hold of the horns of the altar.

So Benaiah went to the tabernacle and said to Joab, “This is what the king says: ‘Come out! ' ”

But Joab said, “No, for I will die here.”

So Benaiah took a message back to the king, “This is what Joab said, and this is how he answered me.”

But the LORD said to my father David,

“Since your heart was set on building a temple for my name,

you have done well to have this desire.[fn]

The queen of Sheba heard about Solomon's fame connected with the name of the LORD and came to test him with difficult questions.

King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba her every desire ​— ​whatever she asked ​— ​besides what he had given her out of his royal bounty. Then she, along with her servants, returned to her own country.

So he went another way; he did not go back by the way he had come to Bethel.

While Obadiah was walking along the road, Elijah suddenly met him. When Obadiah recognized him, he fell facedown and said, “Is it you, my lord Elijah? ”

but he went on a day's journey into the wilderness. He sat down under a broom tree and prayed that he might die. He said, “I have had enough! LORD, take my life, for I'm no better than my ancestors.”

So he went to the king, and the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to Ramoth-gilead for war, or should we refrain? ”

Micaiah told him, “March up and succeed. The LORD will hand it over to the king.”

So King Ahaziah sent a captain with his fifty men to Elijah. When the captain went up to him, he was sitting on top of the hill. He announced, “Man of God, the king declares, ‘Come down! ' ”

Then the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. The third captain went up and fell on his knees in front of Elijah and begged him, “Man of God, please let my life and the lives of these fifty servants of yours be precious to you.

One of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant, my husband, has died. You know that your servant feared the LORD. Now the creditor is coming to take my two children as his slaves.”

She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go sell the oil and pay your debt; you and your sons can live on the rest.”

When she came up to the man of God at the mountain, she clung to his feet. Gehazi came to push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone ​— ​she is in severe anguish, and the LORD has hidden it from me. He hasn't told me.”

So Naaman came with his horses and chariots and stood at the door of Elisha's house.

Then Naaman and his whole company went back to the man of God, stood before him, and declared, “I know there's no God in the whole world except in Israel. Therefore, please accept a gift from your servant.”

Elisha said to the woman whose son he had restored to life, “Get ready, you and your household, and go live as a resident alien wherever you can. For the LORD has announced a seven-year famine, and it has already come to the land.”

When the woman returned from the land of the Philistines at the end of seven years, she went to appeal to the king for her house and field.

Elisha came to Damascus while King Ben-hadad of Aram was sick, and the king was told, “The man of God has come here.”

Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him a gift: forty camel-loads of all the finest products of Damascus. When he came and stood before him, he said, “Your son, King Ben-hadad of Aram, has sent me to ask you, ‘Will I recover from this sickness? ' ”

So a horseman went to meet Jehu and said, “This is what the king asks: ‘Do you come in peace? ' ”

Jehu replied, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.”

The watchman reported, “The messenger reached them but hasn't started back.”

When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard about it, so she painted her eyes, fixed her hair,[fn] and looked down from the window.

When the letter came to them, they took the king's sons and slaughtered all seventy, put their heads in baskets, and sent them to Jehu at Jezreel.

King Jehoash of Israel captured Judah's King Amaziah son of Joash,[fn] son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh. Then Jehoash went to Jerusalem and broke down two hundred yards[fn] of Jerusalem's wall from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate.

Then Menahem son of Gadi came up from Tirzah to Samaria and struck down Shallum son of Jabesh there. He killed him and became king in his place.

In the days of King Pekah of Israel, King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria came and captured Ijon, Abel-beth-maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, and Galilee ​— ​all the land of Naphtali ​— ​and deported the people to Assyria.

“He will go back

the way he came,

and he will not enter this city.

This is the LORD's declaration.

At that time the servants of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon marched up to Jerusalem, and the city came under siege.

In the ninth year of Zedekiah's reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon advanced against Jerusalem with his entire army. They laid siege to the city and built a siege wall against it all around.

On the seventh day of the fifth month ​— ​which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon ​— ​Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guards, a servant of the king of Babylon, entered Jerusalem.

In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the royal family, came with ten men and struck down Gedaliah, and he died. Also, they killed the Judeans and the Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah.

After Hezron's death in Caleb-ephrathah, his wife Abijah bore[fn] Ashhur to him. He was the father of Tekoa.

All Israel came together to David at Hebron and said, “Here we are, your own flesh and blood.[fn]

As the ark of the covenant of the LORD was entering the city of David, Saul's daughter Michal looked down from the window and saw King David leaping[fn] and dancing, and she despised him in her heart.

Then the trees of the forest will shout for joy before the LORD,

for he is coming to judge the earth.

Then King David went in, sat in the LORD's presence, and said,

Who am I, LORD God, and what is my house that you have brought me this far?

When the Arameans of Damascus came to assist King Hadadezer of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand Aramean men.

When the Ammonites saw that the Arameans had fled, they likewise fled before Joab's brother Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab went to Jerusalem.

When this was reported to David, he gathered all Israel and crossed the Jordan. He came up to the Arameans and lined up against them. When David lined up to engage them, they fought against him.

In the spring[fn] when kings march out to war, Joab led the army and destroyed the Ammonites' land. He came to Rabbah and besieged it, but David remained in Jerusalem. Joab attacked Rabbah and demolished it.

Yet the king's order prevailed over Joab. So Joab left and traveled throughout Israel and then returned to Jerusalem.

So Gad went to David and said to him, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Take your choice:

David came to Ornan, and when Ornan looked and saw David, he left the threshing floor and bowed to David with his face to the ground.

So Solomon went to Jerusalem from[fn] the high place that was in Gibeon in front of the tent of meeting, and he reigned over Israel.

Solomon went to Hamath-zobah and seized it.

The queen of Sheba heard of Solomon's fame, so she came to test Solomon with difficult questions at Jerusalem with a very large entourage, with camels bearing spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones. She came to Solomon and spoke with him about everything that was on her mind.

Then Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had gone to Shechem to make him king.

So they summoned him. Then Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam:

So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, just as the king had ordered, saying, “Return to me on the third day.”

When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he mobilized the house of Judah and Benjamin ​— ​one hundred eighty thousand fit young soldiers ​— ​to fight against Israel to restore the reign to Rehoboam.

He captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.

Then Zerah the Cushite came against them with an army of one million men and three hundred[fn] chariots. They came as far as Mareshah.

At that time, the seer Hanani came to King Asa of Judah and said to him, “Because you depended on the king of Aram and have not depended on the LORD your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from you.

So he went to the king, and the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to Ramoth-gilead for war, or should I[fn] refrain? ”

Micaiah said, “March up and succeed, for they will be handed over to you.”

When Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked for the large army, but there were only corpses lying on the ground; nobody had escaped.

Then a letter came to Jehoram from the prophet Elijah, saying:

This is what the LORD, the God of your ancestor David says: “Because you have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or in the ways of King Asa of Judah

This continued day after day until two full years passed. Then his intestines came out because of his disease, and he died from severe[fn] illnesses. But his people did not hold a fire in his honor like the fire in honor of his predecessors.

Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites to the king's overseers, and when they saw that there was a large amount of silver, the king's secretary and the high priest's deputy came and emptied the chest, picked it up, and returned it to its place. They did this daily and gathered the silver in abundance.

At the turn of the year, an Aramean army attacked Joash. They entered Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the leaders of the people among them and sent all the plunder to the king of Damascus.

However, a man of God came to him and said, “King, do not let Israel's army go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel ​— ​all the Ephraimites.

Then King Tiglath-pileser[fn] of Assyria came against Ahaz; he oppressed him and did not give him support.

Then the priests and the Levites stood to bless the people, and God heard them, and their prayer came into his holy dwelling place in heaven.

When Hezekiah and his officials came and viewed the piles, they blessed the LORD and his people Israel.

After Hezekiah's faithful deeds, King Sennacherib of Assyria came and entered Judah. He laid siege to the fortified cities and intended[fn] to break into them.

and the LORD sent an angel who annihilated every valiant warrior, leader, and commander in the camp of the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria returned in disgrace to his land. He went to the temple of his god, and there some of his own children struck him down with the sword.

But Josiah did not turn away from him; instead, in order to fight with him he disguised himself.[fn] He did not listen to Neco's words from the mouth of God, but went to the Valley of Megiddo to fight.

Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD his God.

At that time Tattenai the governor of the region west of the Euphrates River, Shethar-bozenai, and their colleagues came to the Jews and asked, “Who gave you the order to rebuild this temple and finish this structure? ”[fn]

Then this same Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundation of God's house in Jerusalem. It has been under construction from that time until now, but it has not been completed.

Hanani, one of my brothers, arrived with men from Judah, and I questioned them about Jerusalem and the Jewish remnant that had survived the exile.

Then Tobiah the Ammonite, who was beside him, said, “Indeed, even if a fox climbed up what they are building, he would break down their stone wall! ”

He went only as far as the King's Gate, since the law prohibited anyone wearing sackcloth from entering the King's Gate.

One day the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan[fn] also came with them.

a messenger came to Job and reported, “While the oxen were plowing and the donkeys grazing nearby,

He was still speaking when another messenger came and reported, “God's fire fell from heaven. It burned the sheep and the servants and devoured them, and I alone have escaped to tell you! ”

One day the sons of God came again to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them to present himself before the LORD.

I cannot relax or be calm;

I have no rest, for turmoil has come.

All this has happened to us,

but we have not forgotten you

or betrayed your covenant.

Why boast about evil, you hero!

God's faithful love is constant.

Fear and trembling grip me;

horror has overwhelmed me.

He spoke, and insects came —

gnats throughout their country.

He spoke, and locusts came —

young locusts without number.

They asked, and he brought quail

and satisfied them with bread from heaven.

For he comes in futility and he goes in darkness, and his name is shrouded in darkness.

The Lord sent a message against Jacob;

it came against Israel.

“He will go back

the way he came,

and he will not enter this city.

This is the LORD's declaration.

In those days Hezekiah became terminally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came and said to him, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Set your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.' ”[fn]

Then the prophet Isaiah came to King Hezekiah and asked him, “What did these men say, and where did they come to you from? ”

Hezekiah replied, “They came to me from a distant country, from Babylon.”

Jeremiah returned from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy, stood in the courtyard of the LORD's temple, and proclaimed to all the people,

“Then, as the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to the guard's courtyard and urged me, ‘Please buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the right of inheritance and redemption. Buy it for yourself.' Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.

Jeremiah was going about his daily tasks[fn] among the people, for he had not yet been put into the prison.

So Jeremiah went into a cell in the dungeon and stayed there many days.

Jeremiah therefore went to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah, and he stayed with him among the people who remained in the land.

So they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah. The commanders included Ishmael son of Nethaniah, Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maacathite ​— ​they and their men.

In the seventh month, Ishmael son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the royal family and one of the king's chief officers, came with ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah. They ate a meal together there in Mizpah,

Egypt is a beautiful young cow,

but a horsefly from the north is coming against her.[fn]

for a destroyer is coming against her,

against Babylon.

Her warriors will be captured,

their bows shattered,

for the LORD is a God of retribution;

he will certainly repay.

In the ninth year of Zedekiah's reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon advanced against Jerusalem with his entire army. They laid siege to the city and built a siege wall against it all around.

On the tenth day of the fifth month ​— ​which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon ​— ​Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guards, entered Jerusalem as the representative of[fn] the king of Babylon.

We must pay for the water we drink;

our wood comes at a price.

As he spoke to me, the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I listened to the one who was speaking to me.

The Spirit entered me and set me on my feet. He spoke with me and said, “Go, shut yourself inside your house.

“They put a wooden yoke on him[fn] with hooks

and led him away to the king of Babylon.

They brought him into the fortresses

so his roar could no longer be heard

on the mountains of Israel.

In the twelfth year of our exile, in the tenth month, on the fifth day of the month, a fugitive from Jerusalem came to me and reported, “The city has been taken! ”

In the third year of the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah, King Nebuchadnezzar[fn] of Babylon came to Jerusalem and laid siege to it.

Therefore Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had assigned to destroy the wise men of Babylon. He came and said to him, “Don't destroy the wise men of Babylon! Bring me before the king, and I will give him the interpretation.”

Finally Daniel, named Belteshazzar after the name of my god ​— ​and a spirit of the holy gods is in him ​— ​came before me. I told him the dream:

At the first light of dawn the king got up and hurried to the lions' den.

“until the Ancient of Days arrived and a judgment was given in favor of the holy ones of the Most High, for the time had come, and the holy ones took possession of the kingdom.

He came toward the two-horned ram I had seen standing beside the canal and rushed at him with savage fury.

So he approached where I was standing; when he came near, I was terrified and fell facedown. “Son of man,” he said to me, “understand that the vision refers to the time of the end.”

Just as it is written in the law of Moses, all this disaster has come on us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our iniquities and paying attention to your truth.

“But the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me after I had been left there with the kings of Persia.

I will discipline them at my discretion;

nations will be gathered against them

to put them in bondage[fn]

for their double iniquity.

For her wound is incurable

and has reached even Judah;

it has approached my people's city gate,

as far as Jerusalem.
