Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and falling to their knees, they worshiped him.[fn] Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
While he was reclining at the table in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came to eat with Jesus and his disciples.
Then his disciples came, removed the corpse,[fn] buried it, and went and reported to Jesus.
“When the other servants saw what had taken place, they were deeply distressed and went and reported to their master everything that had happened.
“So when the first ones came, they assumed they would get more, but they also received a denarius each.
“So give orders that the tomb be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come, steal him, and tell the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead,' and the last deception will be worse than the first.”
As they were on their way, some of the guards came into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened.
and told them, “Say this, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him while we were sleeping.'
The Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered around him.
When they came, they said to him, “Teacher, we know you are truthful and don't care what anyone thinks, nor do you show partiality but teach the way of God truthfully. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn't we? ”
When they came to Jesus, they did not break his legs since they saw that he was already dead.
When they came to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.
But Paul said to them, “They beat us in public without a trial, although we are Roman citizens, and threw us in jail. And now are they going to send us away secretly? Certainly not! On the contrary, let them come themselves and escort us out.”
So they came to appease them, and escorting them from prison, they urged them to leave town.
