“For I too am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command.[fn] I say to this one, ‘Go,' and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this! ' and he does it.”

“When anyone hears the word about the kingdom and doesn't understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the one sown along the path.

“Elijah is coming[fn] and will restore everything,” he replied.[fn]

“Woe to the world because of offenses. For offenses will inevitably come, but woe to that person by whom the offense comes.

“Therefore be alert, since you don't know what day[fn] your Lord is coming.

“In the middle of the night there was a shout: ‘Here's the groom! Come out to meet him.'

“Therefore be alert, because you don't know either the day or the hour.[fn]

“After a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them.

Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he told the disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”

Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. He asked Peter, “So, couldn't you stay awake with me one hour?

Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? See, the time is near. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

But the rest said, “Let's see if Elijah comes to save him.”

Then a man with leprosy[fn] came to him and, on his knees,[fn] begged him, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”

“Some are like the word sown on the path. When they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word sown in them.[fn]

He also said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket or under a bed? Isn't it to be put on a lampstand?

One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet

They came to the leader's house, and he saw a commotion ​— ​people weeping and wailing loudly.

He saw them straining at the oars,[fn] because the wind was against them. Very early in the morning[fn] he came toward them walking on the sea and wanted to pass by them.

He set out from there and went to the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Then crowds converged on him again, and as was his custom he taught them again.

“Therefore be alert, since you don't know when the master of the house is coming ​— ​whether in the evening or at midnight or at the crowing of the rooster or early in the morning.

When evening came, he arrived with the Twelve.

Then he came and found them sleeping. He said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn't you stay awake one hour?

Then he came a third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The time has come. See, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

While Peter was in the courtyard below, one of the high priest's maidservants came.

Someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, fixed it on a stick, offered him a drink, and said, “Let's see if Elijah comes to take him down.”

John answered them all, “I baptize you with water, but one who is more powerful than I am is coming. I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with[fn] the Holy Spirit and fire.

“For I too am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under my command. I say to this one, ‘Go,' and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,' and he does it.”

“The seed along the path are those who have heard and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.

“But know this: If the homeowner had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.

He also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, right away you say, ‘A storm is coming,' and so it does.

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters ​— ​yes, and even his own life ​— ​he cannot be my disciple.

He said to his disciples, “Offenses will certainly come,[fn] but woe to the one through whom they come!

When he was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming with something observable;

“This is the one I told you about: ‘After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.'

“The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound, but you don't know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

“For everyone who does evil hates the light and avoids it,[fn] so that his deeds may not be exposed.

so he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar near the property[fn] that Jacob had given his son Joseph.

Jesus told her, “Believe me, woman, an hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.

“But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth.[fn] Yes, the Father wants such people to worship him.

The woman said to him, “I know that the Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

“Don't you say, ‘There are still four more months, and then comes the harvest'? Listen to what I'm telling you: Open[fn] your eyes and look at the fields, because they are ready[fn] for harvest.

“Truly I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life.

“Do not be amazed at this, because a time is coming when all who are in the graves will hear his voice

So when Jesus looked up and noticed a huge crowd coming toward him, he asked Philip, “Where will we buy bread so that these people can eat? ”

“It is written in the Prophets: And they will all be taught by God. Everyone who has listened to and learned from the Father comes to me ​— ​

Others said, “This is the Messiah.” But some said, “Surely the Messiah doesn't come from Galilee, does he?

“We[fn] must do the works of him who sent me[fn] while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work.

“A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.

As soon as Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him, but Mary remained seated in the house.

As soon as Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to him.

Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it.

The next day, when the large crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

Do not be afraid,

Daughter Zion. Look, your King is coming,

sitting on a donkey's colt.

Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.

He came to Simon Peter, who asked him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet? ”

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

“I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me.[fn]

“They will ban you from the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering service to God.

“I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. A time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.

“Indeed, an hour is coming, and has come, when each of you will be scattered to his own home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

So Judas took a company of soldiers and some officials[fn] from the chief priests and the Pharisees and came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

On the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark. She saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb.

Then, following him, Simon Peter also came. He entered the tomb and saw the linen cloths lying there.

Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord! ” And she told them what[fn] he had said to her.

A week later his disciples were indoors again, and Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

Jesus came, took the bread, and gave it to them. He did the same with the fish.

“Now as John was completing his mission, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not the one. But one is coming after me, and I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet.'

Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God's wrath is coming on the disobedient[fn] because of these things.

Because of these, God's wrath is coming upon the disobedient,[fn]

For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.

By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and set out for a place that he was going to receive as an inheritance. He went out, even though he did not know where he was going.

Children, it is the last hour. And as you have heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. By this we know that it is the last hour.

but every spirit that does not confess Jesus[fn] is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming; even now it is already in the world.

If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your home, and do not greet him;

Look, he is coming with the clouds,

and every eye will see him,

even those who pierced him.

And all the tribes[fn] of the earth

will mourn over him.[fn]

So it is to be. Amen.
