“He told the vineyard worker, ‘Listen, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree and haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it even waste the soil? '
“He called ten of his servants, gave them ten minas,[fn] and told them, ‘Engage in business until I come back.'
“Sir,” the disabled man answered, “I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I'm coming, someone goes down ahead of me.”
“Even if I testify about myself,” Jesus replied, “my testimony is true, because I know where I came from and where I'm going. But you don't know where I come from or where I'm going.
“If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also.
“You have heard me tell you, ‘I am going away and I am coming to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.
“I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect[fn] them by your name that you have given me, so that they may be one as we are one.
“Now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy completed in them.
“If I want him to remain until I come,” Jesus answered, “what is that to you? As for you, follow me.”
So this rumor[fn] spread to the brothers and sisters that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not tell him that he would not die, but, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? ”
This is the third time I am coming to you. Every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.
“Look, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who is alert and remains clothed[fn] so that he may not go around naked and people see his shame.”
“Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”
“Look, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to repay each person according to his work.
