He was in the world, and the world was created through him, and yet the world did not recognize him.

But as for me, I will never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. The world has been crucified to me through the cross, and I to the world.

See what great love[fn] the Father has given us that we should be called God's children ​— ​and we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn't know him.

Do not be surprised, brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.

They are from the world. Therefore what they say is from the world, and the world listens to them.

We know that we are of God, and the whole world is under the sway of the evil one.
