Then Samuel H8050 spoke H559 to all H3605 the house H1004 of Israel H3478, saying H559, “If H518 you are returning H7725 to the LORD H3068 with all H3605 your heart H3824, then remove H5493 the foreign H5236 gods H430 and the Ashtaroth H6252 from among H8432 you, and direct H3559 your hearts H3824 to the LORD H3068 and serve H5647 Him alone H905; and He will save H5337 you from the hand H3027 of the Philistines H6430.”
“Does the LORD H3068 have as much delight H2656 in burnt H5930 offerings H5930 and sacrifices H2077
As in obeying H8085 the voice H6963 of the LORD H3068?
Behold H2009, to obey H8085 is better H2896 than H4480 a sacrifice H2077,
And to pay H7181 attention H7181 is better than H4480 the fat H2459 of rams H352.
And Samuel H8050 said H559 to Saul H7586, “Why H4100 have you disturbed H7264 me by bringing H5927 me up H5927?” Saul H7586 replied H559, “I am H6887 very H3966 distressed H6887, for the Philistines H6430 are waging H3898 war H3898 against me, and God H430 has abandoned H5493 me and no H3808 longer H5750 answers H6030 me, either H1571 through H3027 prophets H5030 or H1571 in dreams H2472; therefore I have called H7121 you, so that you may let H3045 me know H3045 what H4100 I should do H6213.”
Then Saul H7586 said H559 to Samuel H8050, “I did obey H8085 the voice H6963 of the LORD H3068, for I went H1980 on the [fn]mission H1870 on which H834 the LORD H3068 sent H7971 me; and I have brought H935 Agag H90 the king H4428 of Amalek H6002, and have completely H2763 destroyed H2763 the Amalekites H6002.
Now the LORD H3068 said H559 to Samuel H8050, “How H4970 long H5704 are you going to mourn H56 for [fn]Saul H7586, since I have rejected H3988 him from being H4427 king H4427 over H5921 Israel H3478? Fill H4390 your horn H7161 with oil H8081 and go H1980; I will send H7971 you to Jesse H3448 the Bethlehemite H1022, because H3588 I have chosen H7200 a king H4428 for Myself among his sons H1121.”
Then Saul H7586 immediately H4116 fell H5307 full H4393 length H6967 to the ground H776 and was H3372 very H3966 afraid H3372 because H4480 of Samuel's H8050 words H1697; there was no H3808 strength H3581 in him either H1571, because H3588 he had eaten H398 no H3808 [fn]food H3899 all H3605 day H3117 and all H3605 night H3915.
