God blessed them: “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the waters of the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.”

The LORD God formed out of the ground every wild animal and every bird of the sky, and brought each to the man to see what he would call it. And whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.

So he brought all these to him, cut them in half, and laid the pieces opposite each other, but he did not cut the birds in half.

Philistines stopped up all the wells that his father's servants had dug in the days of his father Abraham, filling them with dirt.

Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the days of his father Abraham and that the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died. He gave them the same names his father had given them.

Reuben went out during the wheat harvest and found some mandrakes in the field. When he brought them to his mother Leah, Rachel asked, “Please give me some of your son's mandrakes.”

Jacob separated the lambs and made the flocks face the streaked sheep and the completely dark sheep in Laban's flocks. Then he set his own stock apart and didn't put them with Laban's sheep.

“When the flocks were breeding, I saw in a dream that the streaked, spotted, and speckled males were mating with the females.

Now Rachel had taken Laban's household idols, put them in the saddlebag of the camel, and sat on them. Laban searched the whole tent but found nothing.

Then they gave Jacob all their foreign gods and their earrings, and Jacob hid them under the oak near Shechem.

“In the top basket were all sorts of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”

He sent his father the following: ten donkeys carrying the best products of Egypt and ten female donkeys carrying grain, food, and provisions for his father on the journey.

So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey, and returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took God's staff in his hand.

“Therefore give orders to bring your livestock and all that you have in the field into shelters. Every person and animal that is in the field and not brought inside will die when the hail falls on them.”

“They must take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses where they eat them.

“If what was stolen ​— ​whether ox, donkey, or sheep ​— ​is actually found alive in his possession, he must repay double.

“Make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.

“Make two cherubim of gold; make them of hammered work at the two ends of the mercy seat.

“Make horns for it on its four corners; the horns are to be of one piece.[fn] Overlay it with bronze.

“Put these on your brother Aaron and his sons; then anoint, ordain,[fn] and consecrate them, so that they may serve me as priests.

“These must be worn by Aaron and his sons whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister in the sanctuary area, so that they do not incur guilt and die. This is to be a permanent statute for Aaron and for his future descendants.

“put them in a basket, and bring them in the basket, along with the bull and two rams.

“Take them from their hands and burn them on the altar on top of the burnt offering, as a pleasing aroma before the LORD; it is a food offering to the LORD.

“Any priest who is one of his sons and who succeeds him and enters the tent of meeting to minister in the sanctuary must wear them for seven days.

“Overlay its top, all around its sides, and its horns with pure gold; make a gold molding all around it.

“The Israelites must observe the Sabbath, celebrating it throughout their generations as a permanent covenant.

He took the gold from them, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it into an image of a calf.

Then they said, “Israel, these are your gods,[fn] who brought you up from the land of Egypt! ”

So the Israelites brought a freewill offering to the LORD, all the men and women whose hearts prompted them to bring something for all the work that the LORD, through Moses, had commanded to be done.

Moses inspected all the work they had accomplished. They had done just as the LORD commanded. Then Moses blessed them.

“He will cut the animal into pieces with its head and its fat, and the priest will arrange them on top of the burning wood on the altar.

“Break it into pieces and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering.

“You may present them to the LORD as an offering of firstfruits, but they are not to be offered on the altar as a pleasing aroma.

“Aaron's sons will burn it on the altar along with the burnt offering that is on the burning wood, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

“He is to bring them to the priest, who will first present the one for the sin offering. He is to twist its head at the back of the neck without severing it.

“The priest will burn them on the altar as a food offering to the LORD; it is a guilt offering.

“His own hands will bring the food offerings to the LORD. He will bring the fat together with the breast. The breast is to be presented as a presentation offering before the LORD.

“I have taken from the Israelites the breast of the presentation offering and the thigh of the contribution from their fellowship sacrifices, and have assigned them to the priest Aaron and to his sons as a permanent portion[fn] from the Israelites.”

He burned the bull with its hide, flesh, and waste outside the camp, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

He put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons and presented them before the LORD as a presentation offering.

Moses said to Aaron and his sons, “Boil the meat at the entrance to the tent of meeting and eat it there with the bread that is in the basket for the ordination offering as I commanded:[fn] Aaron and his sons are to eat it.

He said to Aaron, “Take a young bull for a sin[fn] offering and a ram for a burnt offering, both without blemish, and present them before the LORD.

He burned the flesh and the hide outside the camp.

They brought him the burnt offering piece by piece, along with the head, and he burned them on the altar.

“He is to take the live bird together with the cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop, and dip them all into the blood of the bird that was slaughtered over the fresh water.

“On the eighth day he is to bring these things for his cleansing to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting before the LORD.

“Whoever touches anything that was under him will be unclean until evening, and whoever carries such things is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

“He must take two turtledoves or two young pigeons on the eighth day, come before the LORD at the entrance to the tent of meeting, and give them to the priest.

“On the eighth day she must take two turtledoves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

“The bull for the sin offering and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought into the most holy place to make atonement, must be brought outside the camp and their hide, flesh, and waste burned.

“They must keep my instruction, or they will be guilty and die because they profane it; I am the LORD who sets them apart.

“You may sacrifice as a freewill offering any animal from the herd or flock that has an elongated or stunted limb, but it is not acceptable as a vow offering.

“The priest will present the lambs with the bread of firstfruits as a presentation offering before the LORD; the bread and the two lambs will be holy to the LORD for the priest.

“It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in a holy place, for it is the holiest portion for him from the food offerings to the LORD; this is a permanent rule.”

“You are to keep my statutes and ordinances and carefully observe them, so that you may live securely in the land.

“But if he cannot obtain enough to repay him, what he sold will remain in the possession of its purchaser until the Year of Jubilee. It is to be released at the Jubilee, so that he may return to his property.

“They are to take all the serving utensils they use in the sanctuary, place them in a blue cloth, cover them with a covering made of fine leather, and put them on a carrying frame.

“and place all the equipment on it that they use in serving: the firepans, meat forks, shovels, and basins ​— ​all the equipment of the altar. They are to spread a covering made of fine leather over it and insert its poles.[fn]

“The priest is to present them as a presentation offering before the LORD. It is a holy portion for the priest, in addition to the breast of the presentation offering and the thigh of the contribution. After that, the Nazirite may drink wine.

On the day Moses finished setting up the tabernacle, he anointed and consecrated it and all its furnishings, along with the altar and all its utensils. After he anointed and consecrated these things,

“Accept these from them to be used in the work of the tent of meeting, and give this offering to the Levites, to each division according to their service.”

“These will serve as tassels for you to look at, so that you may remember all the LORD's commands and obey them and not prostitute yourselves by following your own heart and your own eyes.

“place fire in them and put incense on them before the LORD. Then the man the LORD chooses will be the one who is set apart. It is you Levites who have gone too far! ”

“Each of you is to take his firepan, place incense on it, and present his firepan before the LORD ​— ​250 firepans. You and Aaron are each to present your firepan also.”

“As for the firepans of those who sinned at the cost of their own lives, make them into hammered sheets as plating for the altar, for they presented them before the LORD, and the firepans are holy. They will be a sign to the Israelites.”

Then the LORD spoke to Aaron, “Look, I have put you in charge of the contributions brought to me. As for all the holy offerings of the Israelites, I have given them to you and your sons as a portion and a permanent statute.

“The contribution of their gifts also belongs to you. I have given all the Israelites' presentation offerings to you and to your sons and daughters as a permanent statute. Every ceremonially clean person in your house may eat it.

After Moses removed Aaron's garments and put them on his son Eleazar, Aaron died there on top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

“From the Israelites' half, take one out of every fifty from the people, cattle, donkeys, sheep, and goats, all the livestock, and give them to the Levites who perform the duties of[fn] the LORD's tabernacle.”

Moses took one out of every fifty, selected from the people and the livestock of the Israelites' half. He gave them to the Levites who perform the duties of the LORD's tabernacle, as the LORD had commanded him.

Moses and the priest Eleazar received the gold from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds and brought it into the tent of meeting as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.

“you must drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you, destroy all their stone images and cast images, and demolish all their high places.

“He declared his covenant to you. He commanded you to follow the Ten Commandments, which he wrote on two stone tablets.

“When you look to the heavens and see the sun, moon, and stars ​— ​all the stars in the sky ​— ​do not be led astray to bow in worship to them and serve them. The LORD your God has provided them for all people everywhere under heaven.

Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, “Israel, listen to the statutes and ordinances I am proclaiming as you hear them today. Learn and follow them carefully.

“The LORD spoke these commands in a loud voice to your entire assembly from the fire, cloud, and total darkness on the mountain; he added nothing more. He wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.

“Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

“The LORD will remove all sickness from you; he will not put on you all the terrible diseases of Egypt that you know about, but he will inflict them on all who hate you.

“Imprint these words of mine on your hearts and minds, bind them as a sign on your hands, and let them be a symbol[fn] on your foreheads.[fn]

“You are to eat them in the presence of the LORD your God at the place the LORD your God chooses ​— ​you, your son and daughter, your male and female slave, and the Levite who is within your city gates. Rejoice before the LORD your God in everything you do,

“then exchange it for silver, take the silver in your hand, and go to the place the LORD your God chooses.

“When you lay siege to a city for a long time, fighting against it in order to capture it, do not destroy its trees by putting an ax to them, because you can get food from them. Do not cut them down. Are trees of the field human, to come under siege by you?

“If you see your brother Israelite's ox or sheep straying, do not ignore it; make sure you return it to your brother.

“I have now brought the first of the land's produce that you, LORD, have given me.

You will then place the container before the LORD your God and bow down to him.

“Then you will say in the presence of the LORD your God:

I have taken the consecrated portion out of my house; I have also given it to the Levites, resident aliens, fatherless children, and widows, according to all the commands you gave me. I have not violated or forgotten your commands.

“The LORD your God is commanding you this day to follow these statutes and ordinances. Follow them carefully with all your heart and all your soul.

“You will sow much seed in the field but harvest little, because locusts will devour it.

“the afterbirth that comes out from between her legs and the children she bears, because she will secretly eat them for lack of anything else during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you within your city gates.

He was unparalleled for all the signs and wonders the LORD sent him to do against the land of Egypt ​— ​to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to all his land ​— ​

They took the things from inside the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites, and spread them out in the LORD's presence.

The LORD left these nations and did not drive them out immediately. He did not hand them over to Joshua.

“Isn't it true that you can have whatever your god Chemosh conquers for you, and we can have whatever the LORD our God conquers for us?

But Samson stayed in bed only until midnight. Then he got up, took hold of the doors of the city gate along with the two gateposts, and pulled them out, bar and all. He put them on his shoulders and took them to the top of the mountain overlooking Hebron.

Delilah took new ropes, tied him up with them, and shouted, “Samson, the Philistines are here! ” But while the men in ambush were waiting in her room, he snapped the ropes off his arms like a thread.

The LORD said to Samuel, “I am about to do something in Israel that will cause everyone who hears about it to shudder.[fn]

Saul and the troops spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, goats, cattle, and choice animals,[fn] as well as the young rams and the best of everything else. They were not willing to destroy them, but they did destroy all the worthless and unwanted things.

David strapped his sword on over the military clothes and tried to walk, but he was not used to them. “I can't walk in these,” David said to Saul, “I'm not used to them.” So David took them off.

Then Michal took the household idol and put it on the bed, placed some goat hair on its head, and covered it with a garment.

“Am I supposed to take my bread, my water, and my meat that I butchered for my shearers and give them to these men? I don't know where they are from.”

They cut off Saul's head, stripped off his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to spread the good news in the temples of their idols and among the people.

“So I stood over him and killed him because I knew that after he had fallen he couldn't survive. I took the crown that was on his head and the armband that was on his arm, and I've brought them here to my lord.”

David took the gold shields of Hadadezer's officers and brought them to Jerusalem.

Joab said, “I'm not going to waste time with you! ” He then took three spears[fn] in his hand and thrust them into Absalom's chest. While Absalom was still alive in the oak tree,

“My servants will bring the logs down from Lebanon to the sea, and I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place you indicate. I will break them apart there, and you can take them away. You then can meet my needs by providing my household with food.”

The king had them cast in clay molds in the Jordan Valley between Succoth and Zarethan.

“But I didn't believe the reports until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, I was not even told half. Your wisdom and prosperity far exceed the report I heard.

He made three hundred small shields of hammered gold; nearly four pounds[fn] of gold went into each shield. The king put them in the House of the Forest of Lebanon.

“However, I will not do it during your lifetime for the sake of your father David; I will tear it out of your son's hand.

He seized the treasuries of the LORD's temple and the treasuries of the royal palace. He took everything. He took all the gold shields that Solomon had made.

Whenever the king entered the LORD's temple, the guards would carry the shields, then they would take them back to the armory.[fn]

So Asa withdrew all the silver and gold that remained in the treasuries of the LORD's temple and the treasuries of the royal palace and gave it to his servants. Then King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad son of Tabrimmon son of Hezion king of Aram who lived in Damascus, saying,

So he turned back from following him, took the team of oxen, and slaughtered[fn] them. With the oxen's wooden yoke and plow, he cooked the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he left, followed Elijah, and served him.

As Elisha watched, he kept crying out, “My father, my father, the chariots and horsemen of Israel! ”

When he could see him no longer, he took hold of his own clothes, tore them in two,

He turned around, looked at them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. Then two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the children.

At that time Hezekiah stripped the gold from the doors of the LORD's sanctuary and from the doorposts he had overlaid and gave it to the king of Assyria.

Hezekiah took the letter from the messengers' hands, read it, then went up to the LORD's temple, and spread it out before the LORD.

Then the king commanded the high priest Hilkiah and the priests of the second rank and the doorkeepers to bring out of the LORD's sanctuary all the articles made for Baal, Asherah, and all the stars in the sky. He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron and carried their ashes to Bethel.

Some of them were in charge of the utensils used in worship. They would count them when they brought them in and when they took them out.

all their brave men set out and retrieved the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons and brought them to Jabesh. They buried their bones under the oak[fn] in Jabesh and fasted seven days.

Solomon accumulated 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen, which he stationed in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem.

We will cut logs from Lebanon, as many as you need, and bring them to you as rafts by sea to Joppa. You can then take them up to Jerusalem.

He made two cherubim of sculptured work, for the most holy place, and he overlaid them with gold.

The king had them cast in clay molds in the Jordan Valley between Succoth and Zeredah.

Then Ahaz gathered up the utensils of God's temple, cut them into pieces, shut the doors of the LORD's temple, and made himself altars on every street corner in Jerusalem.

This same Hezekiah blocked the upper outlet of the water from the Gihon Spring and channeled it smoothly downward and westward to the city of David. Hezekiah succeeded in everything he did.

Also Nebuchadnezzar took some of the articles of the LORD's temple to Babylon and put them in his temple in Babylon.

King Cyrus also brought out the articles of the LORD's house that Nebuchadnezzar had taken from Jerusalem and had placed in the house of his gods.

He also took from the temple in Babylon the gold and silver articles of God's house that Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem and carried them to the temple in Babylon. He released them from the temple in Babylon to a man named Sheshbazzar, the governor by the appointment of King Cyrus.

Then you are to be diligent to buy with this money bulls, rams, and lambs, along with their grain and drink offerings, and offer them on the altar at the house of your God in Jerusalem.

You warned them to turn back to your law,

but they acted arrogantly

and would not obey your commands.

They sinned against your ordinances,

which a person will live by if he does them.

They stubbornly resisted,[fn]

stiffened their necks, and would not obey.

In my experience, those who plow injustice

and those who sow trouble reap the same.

He removes mountains without their knowledge,

overturning them in his anger.

I wish that my words were written down,

that they were recorded on a scroll

In addition, your servant is warned by them,

and in keeping them there is an abundant reward.

things we have heard and known

and that our ancestors have passed down to us.

He established a testimony in Jacob

and set up a law in Israel,

which he commanded our ancestors

to teach to their children

The birds of the sky live beside the springs;

they make their voices heard among the foliage.

Those who make them are[fn] just like them,

as are all who trust in them.

Your decrees are wondrous;

therefore I obey them.

I obey your decrees

and love them greatly.

Even a young man is known by his actions —

by whether his behavior is pure and upright.

Haven't I written for you thirty sayings[fn]

about counsel and knowledge,

For certainly no one knows his time: like fish caught in a cruel net or like birds caught in a trap, so people are trapped in an evil time as it suddenly falls on them.

Egypt's weavers[fn] will be dejected;

all her wage earners will be demoralized.

The craftsman encourages the metalworker;

the one who flattens with the hammer

encourages the one who strikes the anvil,

saying of the soldering, “It is good.”

He fastens it with nails so that it will not fall over.

Bel crouches; Nebo cowers.

Idols depicting them are consigned to beasts and cattle.

The images you carry are loaded,

as a burden for the weary animal.

“I declare the end from the beginning,

and from long ago what is not yet done,

saying: my plan will take place,

and I will do all my will.

For those who gather grain will eat it

and praise the LORD,

and those who harvest the grapes will drink the wine

in my holy courts.

“They will be exposed to the sun, the moon, and all the stars in the sky, which they have loved, served, followed, consulted, and worshiped. Their bones will not be collected and buried but will become like manure on the soil's surface.

“Say, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, kings of Judah and residents of Jerusalem. This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring such a disaster on this place that everyone who hears about it will shudder[fn]

“Therefore, this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the shepherds who tend my people: You have scattered my flock, banished them, and have not attended to them. I am about to attend to you because of your evil acts” ​— ​this is the LORD's declaration.

“I am against those who prophesy false dreams” ​— ​the LORD's declaration ​— ​“telling them and leading my people astray with their reckless lies. It was not I who sent or commanded them, and they are of no benefit at all to these people” ​— ​this is the LORD's declaration.

So Ebed-melech took the men under his authority[fn] and went to the king's palace to a place below the storehouse.[fn] From there he took old rags and worn-out clothes and lowered them by ropes to Jeremiah in the cistern.

The adversary has seized

all her precious belongings.

She has even seen the nations

enter her sanctuary —

those you had forbidden

to enter your assembly.

When they moved, they went in any of the four directions, without turning as they moved.

When the creatures moved, the wheels moved; when the creatures stopped, the wheels stopped; and when the creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose alongside them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.

When they moved, I heard the sound of their wings like the roar of a huge torrent, like the voice of the Almighty, and a sound of tumult like the noise of an army. When they stopped, they lowered their wings.

“Also take wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt. Put them in a single container and make them into bread for yourself. You are to eat it during the number of days you lie on your side, 390 days.

“You will eat it as you would a barley cake and bake it over dried human excrement in their sight.”

“Son of man, face the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them.

He appointed his beautiful ornaments for majesty,

but[fn] they made their detestable images from them,

their abhorrent things.

Therefore, I have made these

into something filthy to them.

When they moved, they would go in any of the four directions, without pivoting as they moved. But wherever the head faced, they would go in that direction, without pivoting as they went.

When the cherubim stopped, the wheels stood still, and when they ascended, the wheels ascended with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in them.

The cherubim lifted their wings and ascended from the earth right before my eyes; the wheels were beside them as they went. The glory of the God of Israel was above them, and it stopped at the entrance to the eastern gate of the LORD's house.

Then the cherubim, with the wheels beside them, lifted their wings, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.

“ ‘Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: I am against your magic bands with which you ensnare people like birds, and I will tear them from your arms. I will free the people you have ensnared like birds.

“Then you took your embroidered clothing to cover them and set my oil and incense before them.

“He plucked off its topmost shoot, brought it to the land of merchants, and set it in a city of traders.

“ ‘Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: As I live, I will bring down on his head my oath that he despised and my covenant that he broke.

“Then I gave them my statutes and explained my ordinances to them ​— ​the person who does them will live by them.

“ ‘But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not follow my statutes and they rejected my ordinances ​— ​the person who does them will live by them. They also completely profaned my Sabbaths. So I considered pouring out my wrath on them in the wilderness to put an end to them.

“I am the LORD your God. Follow my statutes, keep my ordinances, and practice them.

“This happened so that no trees planted beside water would become great in height and set their tops among the clouds, and so that no other well-watered trees would reach them in height. For they have all been consigned to death, to the underworld, among the people[fn] who descend to the Pit.

“So my people come to you in crowds,[fn] sit in front of you, and hear your words, but they don't obey them. Their mouths go on passionately, but their hearts pursue dishonest profit.

“As a shepherd looks for his sheep on the day he is among his scattered flock, so I will look for my flock. I will rescue them from all the places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and total darkness.

“I will seek the lost, bring back the strays, bandage the injured, and strengthen the weak, but I will destroy[fn] the fat and the strong. I will shepherd them with justice.

He led me all around them. There were a great many of them on the surface of the valley, and they were very dry.

As I looked, tendons appeared on them, flesh grew, and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.

“You are to present them before the LORD; the priests will throw salt on them and sacrifice them as a burnt offering to the LORD.

“When you brought in foreigners, uncircumcised in both heart and flesh, to occupy my sanctuary, you defiled my temple while you offered my food ​— ​the fat and the blood. You[fn] broke my covenant by all your detestable practices.

“At the festival that begins on the fifteenth day of the seventh month,[fn] he will provide the same things for seven days ​— ​the same sin offerings, burnt offerings, grain offerings, and oil.

The Lord handed King Jehoiakim of Judah over to him, along with some of the vessels from the house of God. Nebuchadnezzar carried them to the land of Babylon,[fn] to the house of his god,[fn] and put the vessels in the treasury of his god.

“Then the iron, the fired clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were shattered and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors. The wind carried them away, and not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

So the LORD kept the disaster in mind and brought it on us, for the LORD our God is righteous in all he has done. But we have not obeyed him.

I will devastate her vines and fig trees.

She thinks that these are her wages

that her lovers have given her.

I will turn them into a thicket,

and the wild animals will eat them.

They will not pour out

their wine offerings to the LORD,

and their sacrifices will not please him.

Their food will be like the bread of mourners;

all who eat it become defiled.

For their bread will be for their appetites alone;

it will not enter the house of the LORD.

When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling;

he was exalted in Israel.

But he incurred guilt through Baal and died.

I have been the LORD your God

ever since[fn] the land of Egypt;

you know no God but me,

and no Savior exists besides me.

I will gather all the nations

and take them to the Valley of Jehoshaphat.[fn]

I will enter into judgment with them there

because of my people, my inheritance Israel.

The nations have scattered the Israelites

in foreign countries

and divided up my land.

I asked, “What are they coming to do? ”

He replied, “These are the horns that scattered Judah so no one could raise his head. These craftsmen have come to terrify them, to cut off[fn] the horns of the nations that raised a horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.”

“Those who buy them slaughter them but are not punished. Those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be the LORD because I have become rich!' Even their own shepherds have no compassion for them.

“You also say, ‘Look, what a nuisance! ' And you scorn[fn] it,”[fn] says the LORD of Armies. “You bring stolen,[fn] lame, or sick animals. You bring this as an offering! Am I to accept that from your hands? ” asks the LORD.

“When I saw among the spoils a beautiful cloak from Babylon,[fn] five pounds[fn] of silver, and a bar of gold weighing a pound and a quarter,[fn] I coveted them and took them. You can see for yourself. They are concealed in the ground inside my tent, with the silver under the cloak.”

The wingspan of these cherubim was 30 feet. They stood on their feet and faced the larger room.[fn]

I know that everything God does will last forever; there is no adding to it or taking from it. God works so that people will be in awe of him.

This is what the LORD says:

Do not learn the way of the nations

or be terrified by signs in the heavens,

although the nations are terrified by them,

Their faces looked like the same faces I had seen by the Chebar Canal. Each creature went straight ahead.

The earth will respond to the grain,

the new wine, and the fresh oil,

and they will respond to Jezreel.

One pillar was twenty-seven feet[fn] tall and had a bronze capital on top of it. The capital, encircled by a grating and pomegranates of bronze, stood five feet[fn] high. The second pillar was the same, with its own grating.

Those who make them are just like them,

as are all who trust in them.

He set them in position forever and ever;

he gave an order that will never pass away.
