Deuteronomy 32 – Legacy Standard Bible (LSB)

1 “Give ^H238 ear ^H238, O heavens ^H8064, and let me speak ^H1696;

And let the earth ^H776 hear ^H8085 the words ^H561 of my mouth ^H6310.

2 “Let what ^H3948 I have learned ^H3948 drop ^H6201 as the rain ^H4306,

My speech ^H565 distill ^H5140 as the dew ^H2919,

As the droplets ^H8164 on the fresh ^H1877 grass ^H1877

And as the showers ^H7241 on the herb ^H6212.

3 “For I proclaim ^H7121 the name ^H8034 of Yahweh ^H3068;

Ascribe ^H3051 greatness ^H1433 to our God ^H430!

4 “The Rock ^H6697! His work ^H6467 is [fn]perfect ^H8549,

For all ^H3605 His ways ^H1870 are [fn]just ^H4941;

A God ^H410 of faithfulness ^H530 and without ^H369 injustice ^H5766,

Righteous ^H6662 and upright ^H3477 is He.

5 “[fn]They have acted ^H7843 corruptly ^H7843 toward Him,

They are not His children ^H1121 because of their defect ^H3971;

But are a perverse ^H6141 and crooked ^H6618 generation ^H1755.

6 “Do you thus ^H2088 repay ^H1580 Yahweh ^H3068,

O people ^H5971 who are wickedly foolish ^H5036 and without ^H3808 wisdom ^H2450?

Is not He your Father ^H1 who has bought ^H7069 you?

He has made ^H6213 you and established ^H3559 you.

7 “Remember ^H2142 the ancient ^H5769 days ^H3117,

Consider ^H995 the years ^H8141 from generation ^H1755 to ^H1755 generation ^H1755.

Ask ^H7592 your father ^H1, and he will declare ^H5046 to you,

Your elders ^H2205, and they will speak ^H559 to you.

8 “When the Most ^H5945 High ^H5945 gave ^H5157 the nations ^H1471 their inheritance ^H5157,

Jacob ^H3290 is the allotment ^H2256 of His inheritance ^H5159.

10 “He found ^H4672 him in a desert ^H4057 land ^H776,

And in the howling ^H3214 waste ^H8414 of a wilderness ^H3452;

He encircled ^H5437 him; He cared ^H995 for him;

He guarded ^H5341 him as the pupil ^H380 of His eye ^H5869.

11 “Like an eagle ^H5404 that stirs ^H5782 up ^H5782 its nest ^H7064,

He carried ^H5375 them on His pinions ^H84.

12 “Yahweh ^H3068 alone ^H910 guided ^H5148 him,

And there ^H369 was ^H369 no ^H369 foreign ^H5236 god ^H410 with him.

13 “He made him ride ^H7392 on the high ^H1116 places ^H1116 of the earth ^H776,

And he ate ^H398 the produce ^H8570 of the field ^H7704;

And He made him suck ^H3243 honey ^H1706 from the rock ^H5553,

And oil ^H8081 from the flinty ^H2496 rock ^H6697,

14 Curds ^H2529 of cows ^H1241, and milk ^H2461 of the flock ^H6629,

With fat ^H2459 of lambs ^H3733,

And rams ^H352, the breed ^H1121 of Bashan ^H1316, and goats ^H6260,

With the finest ^H2459 H3629 of the wheat ^H2406—

And of the blood ^H1818 of grapes ^H6025 you drank ^H8354 wine ^H2561.

15 “But [fn]Jeshurun ^H3484 grew ^H8080 fat ^H8080 and kicked ^H1163—

You grew ^H8080 fat ^H8080, thick ^H5666, and sleek ^H3780—

Then he abandoned ^H5203 God ^H433 who made ^H6213 him,

And treated ^H5034 the Rock ^H6697 of his salvation ^H3444 with wicked ^H5034 foolishness ^H5034.

16 “They made ^H7065 Him jealous ^H7065 with strange ^H2114 gods;

With abominations ^H8441 they provoked ^H3707 Him to ^H3707 anger ^H3707.

17 “They sacrificed ^H2076 to demons ^H7700 who were not God ^H433,

To gods ^H430 whom they have not known ^H3045,

New ^H2319 gods who came ^H935 lately ^H4480 H7138,

Whom your fathers ^H1 did not dread ^H8175.

18 “You neglected ^H7876 the Rock ^H6697 who begot ^H3205 you,

And forgot ^H7911 the God ^H410 who brought ^H2342 you forth ^H2342.

19 “And Yahweh ^H3068 saw ^H7200 this and spurned ^H5006 them

Because ^H4480 of the provocation ^H3708 of His sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323.

20 “Then He said ^H559, ‘I will hide ^H5641 My face ^H6440 from them;

I will see ^H7200 what ^H4100 their end ^H319 shall be;

For they are a perverse ^H8419 generation ^H1755,

Sons ^H1121 in whom is no ^H3808 faithfulness ^H529.

21 ‘They have made ^H7065 Me jealous ^H7065 with what is not God ^H410;

They have provoked ^H3707 Me to ^H3707 anger ^H3707 with their [fn]idols ^H1892.

So I will make ^H7065 them jealous ^H7065 with those who are not a people ^H5971;

I will provoke ^H3707 them to ^H3707 anger ^H3707 with a wickedly ^H5036 foolish ^H5036 nation ^H1471,

22 For a fire ^H784 is kindled ^H6919 in My anger ^H639,

And it burns ^H3344 to the lowest ^H8482 part ^H8482 of Sheol ^H7585,

And it consumes ^H398 the earth ^H776 with its produce ^H2981,

And it sets ^H3857 on ^H3857 fire ^H3857 the foundations ^H4144 of the mountains ^H2022.

23 ‘I will heap ^H5595 calamities ^H7451 on them;

I will exhaust ^H3615 My arrows ^H2671 on them.

24 ‘They will be wasted ^H4198 by famine ^H7458, and consumed ^H3898 by [fn]plague ^H7565

And bitter ^H4815 destruction ^H6986;

And the teeth ^H8127 of beasts ^H929 I will send ^H7971 upon them,

With the venom ^H2534 of crawling ^H2119 things ^H2119 of the dust ^H6083.

25 ‘Outside ^H4480 H2351 the sword ^H2719 will bereave ^H7921,

And inside ^H4480 H2315 terror ^H367—

Both ^H1571 choice ^H970 man ^H970 and virgin ^H1330,

The nursing ^H3243 baby ^H3243 with the man ^H376 of gray ^H7872 hair ^H7872.

26 ‘I would have said ^H559, “I will cut ^H6284 them to pieces ^H6284;

I will cause the memory ^H2143 of them to cease ^H7673 from men ^H582,”

27 Had I not feared ^H1481 the provocation ^H3708 by the enemy ^H340,

Lest ^H6435 their adversaries ^H6862 misjudge ^H5234,

Lest ^H6435 they say ^H559, “Our hand ^H3027 is ^H7311 [fn]triumphant ^H7311,

And Yahweh ^H3068 has not done ^H6466 all ^H3605 this ^H2088.”’

28 “For they are a nation ^H1471 where counsel ^H6098 perishes ^H6,

And there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 discernment ^H8394 in them.

29 “Would ^H3863 that they were ^H2449 wise ^H2449, that they had insight ^H7919 into this ^H2088,

That they would understand ^H995 their [fn]future ^H319!

30 “How ^H351 could one ^H259 pursue ^H7291 one thousand ^H505,

And two ^H8147 put ^H5127 ten ^H7233 thousand ^H7233 to ^H5127 flight ^H5127,

Unless ^{H518 H3808 H3588} their Rock ^H6697 had sold ^H4376 them,

And Yahweh ^H3068 had handed ^H5462 them over?

31 “Indeed ^H3588 their rock ^H6697 is not like our Rock ^H6697,

Even our enemies ^H340 [fn]themselves judge ^H6414 this.

32 “For their vine ^H1612 is from the vine ^H1612 of Sodom ^H5467,

And from the fields ^H7709 of Gomorrah ^H6017;

Their grapes ^H6025 are grapes ^H6025 of poison ^H7219,

Their clusters ^H811, bitter ^H4846.

33 “Their wine ^H3196 is the venom ^H2534 of [fn]serpents ^H8577,

And the [fn]deadly ^H393 poison ^H7219 of cobras ^H6620.

34 ‘Is it not laid ^H3647 up in store ^H3647 with Me,

Sealed ^H2856 up ^H2856 in My treasuries ^H214?

35 ‘Vengeance ^H5359 is Mine, and retribution ^H8005,

In due time ^H6256 their foot ^H7272 will stumble ^H4131;

For the day ^H3117 of their disaster ^H343 is near ^H7138,

And the impending ^H6264 things ^H6264 are hastening ^H2363 upon them.’

36 “For Yahweh ^H3068 will render ^H1777 justice ^H1777 to His people ^H5971,

And will have ^H5162 compassion ^H5162 on His slaves ^H5650,

When ^H3588 He sees ^H7200 that their [fn]strength ^H3027 is ^H235 gone ^H235,

And there ^H657 is ^H657 none ^H657 remaining, bond ^H6113 or free ^H5800.

37 “And He will say ^H559, ‘Where ^H335 are their gods ^H430,

The rock ^H6697 in which they sought ^H2620 refuge ^H2620?

38 ‘Who ^H834 ate ^H398 the fat ^H2459 of their sacrifices ^H2077,

And drank ^H8354 the wine ^H3196 of their drink ^H5257 offering ^H5257?

Let them rise ^H6965 up ^H6965 and help ^H5826 you,

Let them be your hiding ^H5643 place ^H5643!

39 ‘See ^H7200 now ^H6258 that I, I am He,

And there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 god ^H430 besides ^H5973 Me;

It is I who put ^H4191 to ^H4191 death ^H4191 and give ^H2421 life ^H2421.

I have wounded ^H4272, and it is I who heal ^H7495,

And there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 one ^H369 who can deliver ^H5337 from My hand ^H3027.

40 ‘Indeed ^H3588, I lift ^H5375 up ^H5375 My hand ^H3027 to heaven ^H8064,

And say ^H559, as I live ^H2416 forever ^H5769,

41 If ^H518 I sharpen ^H8150 My [fn]flashing ^H1300 sword ^H2719,

And My hand ^H3027 takes ^H270 hold ^H270 on judgment ^H4941,

I will render ^H7725 vengeance ^H5359 on My adversaries ^H6862,

And I will repay ^H7999 those who hate ^H8130 Me.

42 ‘I will make ^H7937 My arrows ^H2671 drunk ^H7937 with blood ^H1818,

And My sword ^H2719 will devour ^H398 flesh ^H1320,

With the blood ^H1818 of the slain ^H2491 and the captives ^H7633,

From the long-haired ^H6546 [fn]leaders ^H7218 of the enemy ^H340.’

43 “O nations ^H1471, cause His people ^H5971 to shout ^H7442 for joy ^H7442;

For He will avenge ^H5358 the blood ^H1818 of His slaves ^H5650,

And He will render ^H7725 vengeance ^H5359 on His adversaries ^H6862,

And He will atone ^H3722 for His land ^H127 and His people ^H5971.”

44 Then Moses ^H4872 came ^H935 and spoke ^H1696 all ^H3605 the words ^H1697 of this ^H2088 song ^H7892 in the hearing ^H241 of the people ^H5971, he and [fn]Joshua ^H1954 the son ^H1121 of Nun ^H5126. 45 Then Moses ^H4872 finished ^H3615 speaking ^H1696 all ^H3605 these ^H428 words ^H1697 to all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478, 46 and he said ^H559 to them, “Place ^H7760 in your heart ^H3824 all ^H3605 the words ^H1697 with which ^H834 I am warning ^H5749 you today ^H3117, which ^H834 you shall command ^H6680 your sons ^H1121 to be ^H8104 careful ^H8104 to do ^H6213, even all ^H3605 the words ^H1697 of this ^H2088 law ^H8451. 47 For it is not an idle ^H7386 word ^H1697 for you; indeed ^H3588 it is your life ^H2416. And by this ^H2088 word ^H1697 you will prolong ^H748 your days ^H3117 in the land ^H127, [fn]which ^H834 you are about to cross ^H5674 the Jordan ^H3383 to [fn]possess ^H3423.”

Moses to Go Up Mount Nebo

48 And Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872 that very ^H6106 same ^H6106 day ^H3117, saying ^H559,

49 “Go ^H5927 up ^H5927 to this ^H2088 mountain ^H2022 of the Abarim ^H5682, Mount ^H2022 Nebo ^H5015, which ^H834 is in the land ^H776 of Moab ^H4124 [fn]opposite ^H5921 H6440 Jericho ^H3405, and look ^H7200 at the land ^H776 of Canaan ^H3667, which ^H834 I am giving ^H5414 to the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 for a possession ^H272. 50 Then die ^H4191 on the mountain ^H2022 where ^H834 H8033 you ascend ^H5927, and be gathered ^H622 to your people ^H5971, as Aaron ^H175 your brother ^H251 died ^H4191 on Mount ^H2022 Hor ^H2023 and was gathered ^H622 to his people ^H5971, 51 because ^H5921 H834 you both acted ^H4603 unfaithfully ^H4603 with Me in the midst ^H8432 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 at the waters ^H4325 of Meribah-kadesh ^H4809 H6946, in the wilderness ^H4057 of Zin ^H6790, because ^H5921 H834 you both did not treat ^H6942 Me as ^H6942 holy ^H6942 in the midst ^H8432 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478. 52 For you shall see ^H7200 the land ^H776 at a distance ^H4480 H5048, but you shall not go ^H935 there ^H8033, into the land ^H776 which ^H834 I am giving ^H5414 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478.”
