Lament over Tyre
1 Moreover, the word H1697 of Yahweh H3068 came H1961 to me saying H559,
2 “Now as for you, son H1121 of man H120, take H5375 up H5375 a lamentation H7015 over H5921 Tyre H6865 3 and say H559 to Tyre H6865, who inhabits H3427 the [fn]entrance H3996 to the sea H3220, a trader H7402 of the peoples H5971 to many H7227 coastlands H339, ‘Thus H3541 says H559 Lord H136 Yahweh H3068,
“O Tyre H6865, you have said H559, ‘I am perfect H3632 in beauty H3308.’
4 “Your borders H1366 are in the heart H3820 of the seas H3220;
Your builders H1129 have perfected H3634 your beauty H3308.
5 “They have [fn]made H1129 all H3605 your planks H3871 of fir H1265 trees H1265 from Senir H8149;
They have taken H3947 a cedar H730 from Lebanon H3844 to make H6213 a mast H8650 for you.
6 “Of oaks H437 from Bashan H1316 they have made H6213 your oars H4880;
With ivory H8127 they have [fn]inlaid H6213 your deck H7175 of boxwood H839 from the coastlands H339 of Cyprus H3794.
7 “Your [fn]sail H4666 was of fine H8336 embroidered H7553 linen H8336 from Egypt H4714
So that it became H1961 your [fn]standard H5251;
Your [fn]awning H4374 was [fn]blue H8504 and purple H713 from the coastlands H339 of Elishah H473.
8 “The inhabitants H3427 of Sidon H6721 and Arvad H719 were your rowers H7751;
Your wise H2450 men H2450, O Tyre H6865, were [fn]aboard; they were your pilots H2259.
9 “The elders H2205 of Gebal H1380 and her wise H2450 men H2450 were with you repairing H2388 your seams H919;
All H3605 the ships H591 of the sea H3220 and their sailors H4419 were with you in order to deal H6148 in H6148 your merchandise H4627.
10 “Persia H6539 and Lud H3865 and Put H6316 were in your military H2428 force H2428, your men H376 of war H4421. They hung H8518 shield H4043 and helmet H3553 in you; they set H5414 forth your majesty H1926. 11 The sons H1121 of Arvad H719 and your military H2428 force H2428 were on your walls H2346, all around H5439, and the [fn]Gammadim H1575 were in your towers H4026. They hung H8518 their small H7982 shields H7982 on your walls H2346 all around H5439; they perfected H3634 your beauty H3308.
12 “Tarshish H8659 was your customer H5503 because H4480 of the abundance H7230 of all H3605 kinds of wealth H1952; with silver H3701, iron H1270, tin H913, and lead H5777 they paid H5414 for your wares H5801. 13 Javan H3120, Tubal H8422, and Meshech H4902, they were your traders H7402; with the lives H5315 of men H120 and vessels H3627 of bronze H5178 they paid H5414 for your merchandise H4627. 14 Those from Beth-togarmah H1004 H8425 gave H5414 horses H5483 and war H6571 horses H6571 and mules H6505 for your wares H5801. 15 The sons H1121 of Dedan H1719 were your traders H7402. Many H7227 coastlands H339 were [fn]customers H5506 at your hand H3027; ivory H8127 tusks H7161 and ebony H1894 they brought H7725 as your payment H814. 16 Aram H758 was your customer H5503 because H4480 of the abundance H7230 of your [fn]goods H4639; they paid H5414 for your wares H5801 with emeralds H5306, purple H713, embroidered H7553 work H7553, fine H948 linen H948, coral H7215, and rubies H3539. 17 Judah H3063 and the land H776 of Israel H3478, they were your traders H7402; with the wheat H2406 of Minnith H4511, [fn]cakes H6436, honey H1706, oil H8081, and balm H6875 they paid H5414 for your merchandise H4627. 18 Damascus H1834 was your customer H5503 because of the abundance H7230 of your [fn]goods H4639, because H4480 of the abundance H7230 of all H3605 kinds of wealth H1952, because of the wine H3196 of Helbon H2463 and white H6713 wool H6785. 19 Also Vedan H2051 and Javan H3120 paid H5414 for your wares H5801 [fn]from Uzal H187; wrought H6219 iron H1270, cassia H6916, and [fn]sweet H7070 cane H7070 were among your merchandise H4627. 20 Dedan H1719 traded H7402 with you in saddlecloths H2667 H899 for riding H7396. 21 Arabia H6152 and all H3605 the princes H5387 of Kedar H6938, they were [fn]customers H5503 at your hand H3027 for lambs H3733, rams H352, and goats H6260; for these, they were your customers H5503. 22 The traders H7402 of Sheba H7614 and Raamah H7484, they traded H7402 with you; they paid H5414 for your wares H5801 with the best H7218 of all H3605 kinds of spices H1314 and with all H3605 kinds of precious H3368 stones H68 and gold H2091. 23 Haran H2771, Canneh H3656, Eden H5729, the traders H7402 of Sheba H7614, Asshur H804, and Chilmad H3638 traded H7402 with you. 24 They traded H7402 with you in choice H4360 garments H4360, in clothes H1545 of [fn]blue H8504 and embroidered H7553 work H7553, and in carpets H1595 of many H1264 colors H1264 and tightly H729 wound H2280 cords H2256, which were among your merchandise H4819. 25 The ships H591 of Tarshish H8659 were [fn]the carriers H7788 for your merchandise H4627.
And you were filled H4390 and were H3513 very H3966 [fn]glorious H3513
In the heart H3820 of the seas H3220.
26 “Your rowers H7751 have brought H935 you
Into great H7227 waters H4325;
The east H6921 wind H7307 has broken H7665 you
In the heart H3820 of the seas H3220.
27 “Your wealth H1952, your wares H5801, your merchandise H4627,
Your sailors H4419 and your pilots H2259,
Your repairers H2388 of seams H919, your dealers H6148 in merchandise H4627,
And all H3605 your men H376 of war H4421 who H834 are in you,
With all H3605 your assembly H6951 that is in your midst H8432,
Will fall H5307 into the heart H3820 of the seas H3220
On the day H3117 of your downfall H4658.
28 “At the sound H6963 of the cry H2201 of your pilots H2259
The pasture H4054 lands H4054 will shake H7493.
29 “All H3605 who handle H8610 the oar H4880,
The sailors H4419 and all H3605 the pilots H2259 of the sea H3220,
Will come H3381 down H3381 from their ships H591;
They will stand H5975 on the land H776,
30 And they will make H8085 their voice H6963 heard H8085 over H5921 you
And will cry H2199 bitterly H4751.
They will cast H5927 dust H6083 on their heads H7218;
They will wallow H6428 in ashes H665.
31 “Also they will make H7139 themselves bald H7139 H7144 for you
And gird H2296 themselves with sackcloth H8242;
And they will weep H1058 for you in bitterness H4751 of soul H5315
With bitter H4751 mourning H4553.
32 “Moreover, in their wailing H5092 they will take H5375 up H5375 a lamentation H7015 for you
And lament H6969 over H5921 you:
‘Who H4310 is like Tyre H6865,
Like her who H1822 is H1822 silent H1822 in the midst H8432 of the sea H3220?
33 ‘When your wares H5801 went H3318 out H3318 from the seas H3220,
You satisfied H7646 a great H7227 number of peoples H5971;
With the greatness H7230 of your wealth H1952 and your merchandise H4627
You enriched H6238 the kings H4428 of earth H776.
34 ‘[fn]Now H6256 that you are broken H7665 by the seas H3220
In the depths H4615 of the waters H4325,
Your merchandise H4627 and all H3605 your assembly H6951
Have fallen H5307 in the midst H8432 of you.
35 ‘All H3605 the inhabitants H3427 of the coastlands H339
Are H8074 appalled H8074 at you,
And their kings H4428 are horribly H8178 horrified H8175;
They are H7481 troubled H7481 in countenance H6440.
36 ‘The merchants H5503 among the peoples H5971 hiss H8319 at you;
