Peril in Transporting the Ark
1 Then David H1732 consulted H3289 with the captains H8269 of the thousands H505 and the hundreds H3967, with every H3605 leader H5057.
2 David H1732 said H559 to all H3605 the assembly H6951 of Israel H3478, “If H518 it seems good H2895 to you, and if it is from the LORD H3068 our God H430, [fn]let us send H7971 word everywhere H6555 to our kinsmen H251 who remain H7604 in all H3605 the land H776 of Israel H3478, and to the priests H3548 and Levites H3881 who are with them in their cities H5892 with pasture H4054 lands H4054, that they meet H6908 with us; 3 and [fn]let us bring H5437 back H5437 the ark H727 of our God H430 to us, since H3588 we did not seek H1875 it in the days H3117 of Saul H7586.” 4 Then all H3605 the assembly H6951 said H559 that they would do H6213 so H3651, for [fn]this H1697 was H3474 right H3474 in the eyes H5869 of all H3605 the people H5971.
5 So David H1732 assembled H6950 all H3605 Israel H3478 together, from the Shihor H7883 of Egypt H4714 to the entrance H935 of Hamath H2574, to bring H935 the ark H727 of God H430 from Kiriath-jearim H7157. 6 David H1732 and all H3605 Israel H3478 went H5927 up H5927 to Baalah H1173, that is, to Kiriath-jearim H7157, which H834 belongs to Judah H3063, to bring H5927 up H5927 from there H8033 the ark H727 of God H430, the LORD H3068 who is enthroned H3427 above the cherubim H3742, where H834 His name H8034 is called H7121. 7 And they [fn]carried H7392 the ark H727 of God H430 on a new H2319 cart H5699 from the house H1004 of Abinadab H41, and Uzza H5798 and Ahio H283 drove H5090 the cart H5699. 8 David H1732 and all H3605 Israel H3478 were celebrating H7832 before H6440 God H430 with all H3605 their might H5797, with songs H7892 and with lyres H3658, harps H5035, tambourines H8596, cymbals H4700, and trumpets H2689.
9 When they came H935 to the threshing H1637 floor H1637 of Chidon H3592, Uzza H5798 put H7971 out H7971 his hand H3027 to hold H270 the ark H727, because H3588 the oxen H1241 nearly overturned H8058 it. 10 But the anger H639 of the LORD H3068 burned H2734 against Uzza H5798, so He struck H5221 him because H5921 H834 he had put H7971 out H7971 his hand H3027 toward H5921 the ark H727; and he died H4191 there H8033 before H6440 God H430. 11 Then David H1732 became H2734 angry H2734 because H3588 [fn]of the LORD’S H3068 outburst H6555 H6556 against Uzza H5798; and he called H7121 that place H4725 [fn]Perez-uzza H6560 as it is to this H2088 day H3117. 12 David H1732 was H3372 afraid H3372 of God H430 that day H3117, saying H559, “How H1963 can I bring H935 the ark H727 of God H430 home to me?” 13 So David H1732 did not take H5493 the ark H727 with him to the city H5892 of David H1732, but took H5186 it aside H5186 to the house H1004 of Obed-edom H5654 the Gittite H1663. 14 And the ark H727 of God H430 remained H3427 with the family H1004 of Obed-edom H5654 in his house H1004 for three H7969 months H2320; and the LORD H3068 blessed H1288 the family H1004 of Obed-edom H5654 and all H3605 that he had.
