David King over All Israel

1 Then all ^H3605 the tribes ^H7626 of Israel ^H3478 came ^H935 to David ^H1732 at Hebron ^H2275 and [fn]said ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, we are your bone ^H6106 and your flesh ^H1320.

2 Previously ^{H1571 H865 H8032}, when Saul ^H7586 was king ^H4428 over ^H5921 us, you were the one who led ^H3318 Israel ^H3478 [fn]out and in. And the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 to you, ‘You will shepherd ^H7462 My people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478, and you will be a leader ^H5057 over ^H5921 Israel ^H3478.’” 3 So all ^H3605 the elders ^H2205 of Israel ^H3478 came ^H935 to the king ^H4428 at Hebron ^H2275, and King ^H4428 David ^H1732 made ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285 with them before ^H6440 the LORD ^H3068 in Hebron ^H2275; then they anointed ^H4886 David ^H1732 king ^H4428 over ^H5921 Israel ^H3478. 4 David ^H1732 was thirty ^H7970 years ^H8141 old ^H1121 when he became ^H4427 king ^H4427, and he reigned ^H4427 for forty ^H705 years ^H8141. 5 At Hebron ^H2275 he reigned ^H4427 over ^H5921 Judah ^H3063 for seven ^H7651 years ^H8141 and six ^H8337 months ^H2320, and in Jerusalem ^H3389 he reigned ^H4427 for thirty-three ^H7970 H7969 years ^H8141 over ^H5921 all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478 and Judah ^H3063.

13 Meanwhile David ^H1732 took ^H3947 more ^H5750 concubines ^H6370 and wives ^H802 from Jerusalem ^H3389, after ^H310 he came ^H935 from Hebron ^H2275; and more ^H5750 sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323 were born ^H3205 to David ^H1732. 14 Now these ^H428 are the names ^H8034 of those who were born ^H3209 to him in Jerusalem ^H3389: Shammua ^H8051, Shobab ^H7727, Nathan ^H5416, Solomon ^H8010, 15 Ibhar ^H2984, Elishua ^H474, Nepheg ^H5298, Japhia ^H3309, 16 Elishama ^H476, Eliada ^H450, and Eliphelet ^H467.

War with the Philistines

17 Now when the Philistines ^H6430 heard ^H8085 that they had anointed ^H4886 David ^H1732 king ^H4428 over ^H5921 Israel ^H3478, all ^H3605 the Philistines ^H6430 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 to seek ^H1245 out ^H1245 David ^H1732; and when David ^H1732 heard ^H8085 about it, he went ^H3381 down ^H3381 to the stronghold ^H4686.

22 Now the Philistines ^H6430 came ^H5927 up ^H5927 once ^H3254 H5750 again ^H3254 and overran ^H5203 the Valley ^H6010 of Rephaim ^H7497. 23 So David ^H1732 inquired ^H7592 of the LORD ^H3068, but He said ^H559, “You shall not go ^H5927 directly up ^H5927; circle ^H5437 around ^H5437 behind ^H310 them and come ^H935 at them in front ^H4136 of the baka-shrubs ^H1057. 24 And it shall be, when you hear ^H8085 the sound ^H6963 of marching ^H6807 in the tops ^H7218 of the baka-shrubs ^H1057, then ^H227 you shall [fn]act ^H2782 promptly ^H2782, for then ^H227 the LORD ^H3068 will have gone ^H3318 out ^H3318 before ^H6440 you to strike ^H5221 the army ^H4264 of the Philistines ^H6430.” 25 Then David ^H1732 did ^H6213 so ^H3651, just ^H834 as ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 had commanded ^H6680 him; he struck ^H5221 and ^H5221 killed ^H5221 the Philistines ^H6430 from [fn]Geba ^H1387 [fn]as far ^H5704 as Gezer ^H1507.
