Basket of Fruit and Israel’s Captivity
1 This H3541 is H3541 what H3541 the Lord H136 [fn]GOD H3068 showed H7200 me, and behold H2009, there was a basket H3619 of summer H7019 fruit H7019.
2 And He said H559, “What H4100 do you see H7200, Amos H5986?” And I said H559, “A basket H3619 of summer H7019 fruit H7019.” Then the LORD H3068 said H559 to me, “The end H7093 has come H935 for My people H5971 Israel H3478. I will not [fn]spare H5674 them any H5750 longer H3254 H5750. 3 [fn]The songs H7892 of the palace H1964 will turn H3213 to H3213 wailing H3213 on that day H3117,” declares H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3068. “The corpses H6297 will be many H7227; in every H3605 place H4725 [fn]they will throw H7993 them out H7993. [fn]Hush H2013!”
4 Hear H8085 this H2088, you who [fn]trample H7602 the needy H34, to put H7673 an H7673 end H7673 to H7673 the humble H6041 of the land H776, 5 saying H559,
“When H4970 will the new H2320 moon H2320 [fn]be H5674 over H5674,
So that we may sell H7666 grain H7668;
And the Sabbath H7676, so that we may open H6605 the wheat H1250 market,
To make H6994 the [fn]ephah H374 smaller H6994 and the [fn]shekel H8255 bigger H1431,
And to cheat H5791 with dishonest H4820 scales H3976,
6 So as to buy H7069 the helpless H1800 for [fn]money H3701,
And the needy H34 for a pair of sandals H5275,
And that we may sell H7666 the refuse H4651 of the wheat H1250?”
7 The LORD H3068 has sworn H7650 by the pride H1347 of Jacob H3290,
“Indeed H518, I will never H518 H5331 forget H7911 any H3605 of their deeds H4639.
8 “Because H5921 of this H2088 will the land H776 not quake H7264,
And everyone H3605 who lives H3427 in it mourn H56?
Indeed, all H3605 of it will rise H5927 up H5927 like the Nile H2975,
And it will be tossed H1644 about H1644
And subside H8257 like the Nile H2975 of Egypt H4714.
9 “And it will come H1961 about H1961 on that day H3117,” declares H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3068,
“That I will make the sun H8121 go H935 down at noon H6672,
And make H2821 the earth H776 dark H2821 in [fn]broad H216 daylight H3117 H216.
10 “Then I will turn H2015 your festivals H2282 into mourning H60,
And all H3605 your songs H7892 into songs H7015 of H7015 mourning H7015;
And I will put H5927 sackcloth H8242 around H5921 everyone’s H3605 waist H4975,
And [fn]baldness H7144 on every H3605 head H7218.
And I will make H7760 it like a time of mourning H60 for an only H3173 son H3173,
And the end H319 of it will be like a bitter H4751 day H3117.
11 “Behold H2009, days H3117 are coming H935,” declares H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3068,
“When I will send H7971 a famine H7458 on the land H776,
Not a famine H7458 of bread H3899 or a thirst H6772 for water H4325,
But rather H3588 H518 for hearing H8085 the words H1697 of the LORD H3068.
12 “People will stagger H5128 from sea H3220 to sea H3220
And from the north H6828 even to the east H4217;
They will roam H7751 about H7751 to seek H1245 the word H1697 of the LORD H3068,
But they will not find H4672 it.
13 “On that day H3117 the beautiful H3303 virgins H1330
And the young H970 men H970 will faint H5968 from thirst H6772.
14 “As for those who swear H7650 by the [fn]guilt H819 of Samaria H8111,
And say H559, ‘As your god H430 lives H2416, Dan H1835,’
