Parable of the Boiling Pot

1 Now the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me in the ninth ^H8671 year ^H8141, in the tenth ^H6224 month ^H2320, on the tenth ^H6218 of the month ^H2320, saying ^H559,

2 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, write ^H3789 the name ^H8034 of the day ^H3117, this ^H2088 very ^H6106 day ^H3117. The king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 [fn]has laid ^H5564 siege ^H5564 to Jerusalem ^H3389 this ^H2088 very ^H6106 day ^H3117. 3 Present ^H4911 a parable ^H4912 to the rebellious ^H4805 house ^H1004 and say ^H559 to them, ‘This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 [fn]GOD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“Put ^H8239 on the pot ^H5518, put ^H8239 it on and also ^H1571 pour ^H3332 water ^H4325 into it;

4 [fn]Put ^H622 in it the pieces ^H5409 of ^H5409 meat ^H5409,

Every ^H3605 good ^H2896 piece ^H5409, the thigh ^H3409 and the shoulder ^H3802;

Fill ^H4390 it with choice ^H4005 bones ^H6106.

5 “Take ^H3947 the choicest ^H4005 of the flock ^H6629,

And also ^H1571 stack ^H1754 [fn]wood ^H6086 under ^H8478 [fn]the pot.

Make it boil ^H7570 vigorously ^H7571.

Also ^H1571 boil ^H1310 its bones ^H6106 in it.”

6 ‘Therefore ^H3651, this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“Woe ^H188 to the bloody ^H1818 city ^H5892,

To the pot ^H5518 in which ^H834 there is rust ^H2457

And whose rust ^H2457 has not gone ^H3318 out ^H3318 of it!

Take ^H3318 out ^H3318 of it piece ^H5409 after piece ^H5409,

[fn]Without ^H3808 making ^H5307 a choice ^H1486.

7 “For her blood ^H1818 is in her midst ^H8432;

She placed ^H7760 it on the bare ^H6706 rock ^H5553;

She did not pour ^H8210 it on the ground ^H776

To cover ^H3680 it with dust ^H6083.

8 “So that it may cause wrath ^H2534 to come ^H5927 up ^H5927 to take ^H5358 vengeance ^H5359,

I have put ^H5414 her blood ^H1818 on the bare ^H6706 rock ^H5553,

So that it will not be covered ^H3680.”

9 Therefore ^H3651, this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“Woe ^H188 to the bloody ^H1818 city ^H5892!

I also ^H1571 will make ^H1431 the wood ^H4071 pile ^H4071 great ^H1431.

10 “Heap ^H7235 on ^H7235 the wood ^H6086, kindle ^H1814 the fire ^H784,

[fn]Cook ^H8552 the meat ^H1320 thoroughly ^H8552

And mix ^H7543 in ^H7543 the spices ^H4840,

And let the bones ^H6106 be burned ^H2787 up.

11 “Then set ^H5975 it empty ^H7386 on its burning ^H1513 coals ^H1513

So ^H4616 that ^H4616 it may be ^H2552 hot ^H2552

And its bronze ^H5178 may [fn]glow ^H2787,

And its filthiness ^H2932 may be melted ^H5413 in it,

Its rust ^H2457 eliminated ^H8552.

12 “She has wearied ^H3811 Me with work ^H8383,

Yet her great ^H7227 rust ^H2457 has not gone ^H3318 from her;

Let her rust ^H2457 be in the fire ^H784!

13 “In your filthiness ^H2932 is outrageous ^H2154 sin ^H2154.

Because ^H3282 I would have cleansed ^H2891 you,

Yet you are ^H2891 not clean ^H2891,

You will not be cleansed ^H2891 from your filthiness ^H2932 again ^H5750

Until ^H5704 I have [fn]expended ^H5117 My wrath ^H2534 on you.

14 I, the LORD ^H3068, have spoken ^H1696; it is coming ^H935 and I will act ^H6213. I will not overlook ^H6544, I will not pity ^H2347, and I will not be ^H5162 sorry ^H5162; according to your ways ^H1870 and according to your deeds ^H5949 [fn]I will judge ^H8199 you,” declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068.’”

Death of Ezekiel’s Wife Is a Sign

15 And the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559,

16 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, behold ^H2009, I am about to take ^H3947 from you what ^H4261 is ^H4261 precious ^H4261 to your eyes ^H5869 with a fatal ^H4046 blow ^H4046; but you shall not mourn ^H5594 and you shall not weep ^H1058, and your tears ^H1832 shall not come ^H935. 17 Groan ^H602 silently ^H1826; do ^H6213 no ^H3808 mourning ^H60 for the dead ^H4191. Bind ^H2280 on your turban ^H6287 and put ^H7760 your sandals ^H5275 on your feet ^H7272, and do not [fn]cover ^H5844 your mustache ^H8222, and do not eat ^H398 the [fn]bread ^H3899 of other people ^H376.” 18 So I spoke ^H1696 to the people ^H5971 in the morning ^H1242, and in the evening ^H6153 my wife ^H802 died ^H4191. And in the morning ^H1242 I did ^H6213 as I was commanded ^H6680. 19 And the people ^H5971 said ^H559 to me, “Will you not tell ^H5046 us what ^H4100 these ^H428 things ^H428 mean for us, that you are doing ^H6213?” 20 Then I said ^H559 to them, “The word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559, 21 ‘Speak ^H559 to the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478, “This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068 says ^H559: ‘Behold ^H2009, I am about to profane ^H2490 My sanctuary ^H4720, the pride ^H1347 of your power ^H5797, that which ^H4261 is ^H4261 precious ^H4261 in your eyes ^H5869 and the longing ^H4263 of your soul ^H5315; and your sons ^H1121 and your daughters ^H1323 whom ^H834 you have left ^H5800 behind ^H5800 will fall ^H5307 by the sword ^H2719. 22 And you will do ^H6213 just ^H834 as ^H834 I have done ^H6213; you will not [fn]cover ^H5844 your mustache ^H8222, and you will not eat ^H398 the [fn]bread ^H3899 of other people ^H376. 23 Your turbans ^H6287 will be on your heads ^H7218, and your sandals ^H5275 on your feet ^H7272. You will not mourn ^H5594 and you will not weep ^H1058; but you will rot ^H4743 away ^H4743 in your guilty ^H5771 deeds ^H5771, and you will groan ^H5098 [fn]to one ^H376 another ^H251. 24 So Ezekiel ^H3168 will be a sign ^H4159 to you; according to all ^H3605 that he has done ^H6213, you will do ^H6213. When it comes ^H935, then you will know ^H3045 that I am the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068.’”

25 ‘As for you, son ^H1121 of man ^H120, will it not be on the day ^H3117 when I take ^H3947 from them their stronghold ^H4581, the joy ^H4885 of their splendor ^H8597, that which ^H4261 is precious ^H4261 in their eyes ^H5869 and their [fn]heart’s ^H5315 longing ^H4853, their sons ^H1121 and their daughters ^H1323, 26 that on that day ^H3117 the one who ^H6412 escapes ^H6412 will come ^H935 to you with information ^H2045 for your ears ^H241? 27 On that day ^H3117 your mouth ^H6310 will be opened ^H6605 to him who ^H6412 escaped ^H6412, and you will speak ^H1696 and no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 be silenced ^H481. So you will be a sign ^H4159 to them, and they will know ^H3045 that I am the LORD ^H3068.’”
