Grief over Egypt

1 The word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 came ^H1961 again to me, saying ^H559,

2 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, prophesy ^H5012 and say ^H559, ‘This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 [fn]GOD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“Wail ^H3213, ‘Woe ^H1929 for the day ^H3117!’

3 “For the day ^H3117 is near ^H7138,

Indeed, the day ^H3117 of the LORD ^H3068 is near ^H7138;

It will be a day ^H3117 of clouds ^H6051,

A time ^H6256 of doom for the nations ^H1471.

4 “A sword ^H2719 will come ^H935 upon Egypt ^H4714,

And there will be trembling ^H2479 in [fn]Cush ^H3568;

When the slain ^H2491 fall ^H5307 in Egypt ^H4714,

They will take ^H3947 away her [fn]wealth ^H1995,

And her foundations ^H3247 will be torn ^H2040 down ^H2040.

5 [fn]Cush ^H3568, Put ^H6316, Lud ^H3865, all ^H3605 [fn]Arabia ^H6152, [fn]Libya ^H3864 and the [fn]people ^H1121 of the land ^H776 [fn]that is in league ^H1285 will fall ^H5307 with them by the sword ^H2719.”

6 ‘This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“Indeed, those who support ^H5564 Egypt ^H4714 will fall ^H5307

And the pride ^H1347 of her power ^H5797 will come ^H3381 down ^H3381;

From Migdol ^H4024 to Syene ^H5482

They will fall ^H5307 within her by the sword ^H2719,”

Declares ^H5002 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068.

7 “They will be ^H8074 desolate ^H8074

In the midst ^H8432 of the desolated ^H8074 lands ^H776;

And her cities ^H5892 will be

In the midst ^H8432 of the devastated ^H2717 cities ^H5892.

8 “And they will know ^H3045 that I am the LORD ^H3068,

When I set ^H5414 a fire ^H784 in Egypt ^H4714

And all ^H3605 her helpers ^H5826 are broken ^H7665.

9 On that day ^H3117 messengers ^H4397 will go ^H3318 out ^H3318 from Me in ships ^H6716 to frighten ^H2729 carefree ^H983 [fn]Cush ^H3568; and trembling ^H2479 will come ^H1961 on them as on the day ^H3117 of Egypt ^H4714; for behold ^H2009, it is coming ^H935!”

10 ‘This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“I will also make the [fn]hordes ^H1995 of Egypt ^H4714 cease ^H7673

By the hand ^H3027 of Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894.

11 “He and his people ^H5971 with him,

The most ^H6184 ruthless ^H6184 of the nations ^H1471,

Will be brought ^H935 in ^H935 to destroy ^H7843 the land ^H776;

And they will draw ^H7324 their swords ^H2719 against ^H5921 Egypt ^H4714

And fill ^H4390 the land ^H776 with the slain ^H2491.

12 “Moreover, I will make ^H5414 the Nile ^H2975 canals ^H2975 dry ^H2724

And sell ^H4376 the land ^H776 into the hands ^H3027 of evil ^H7451 men ^H7451.

And I will make ^H8074 the land ^H776 desolate ^H8074

And [fn]all ^H4393 that is in ^H4393 it,

By the hand ^H3027 of strangers ^H2114; I the LORD ^H3068 have spoken ^H1696.”

13 ‘This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“I will also destroy ^H6 the idols ^H1544

And make the [fn]images ^H457 cease ^H7673 from [fn]Memphis ^H5297.

And there will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 be a prince ^H5387 in the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714;

And I will put ^H5414 fear ^H3374 in the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714.

14 “I will make ^H8074 Pathros ^H6624 desolate ^H8074,

Set ^H5414 a fire ^H784 in Zoan ^H6814

And execute ^H6213 judgments ^H8201 on [fn]Thebes ^H4996.

15 “I will pour ^H8210 out ^H8210 My wrath ^H2534 on [fn]Sin ^H5512,

The stronghold ^H4581 of Egypt ^H4714;

I will also eliminate ^H3772 the hordes ^H1995 of [fn]Thebes ^H4996.

16 “I will set ^H5414 a fire ^H784 in Egypt ^H4714;

[fn]Sin ^H5512 will writhe ^H2342 in ^H2342 anguish ^H2342,

[fn]Thebes ^H4996 will be breached ^H1234

And [fn]Memphis ^H5297 will have [fn]distresses ^H6862 daily ^H3119.

17 “The young ^H970 men ^H970 of [fn]On ^H204 and of Pi-beseth ^H6364

Will fall ^H5307 by the sword ^H2719,

And [fn]the women ^H1992 will go ^H1980 into captivity ^H7628.

18 “In Tehaphnehes ^H8471 the day ^H3117 will [fn]be ^H2821 dark ^H2821

When I break ^H7665 there ^H8033 the yoke ^H4133 bars ^H4133 of Egypt ^H4714.

Then the pride ^H1347 of her power ^H5797 will cease ^H7673 in her;

A cloud ^H6051 will cover ^H3680 her,

And her daughters ^H1323 will go ^H1980 into captivity ^H7628.

19 “So I will execute ^H6213 judgments ^H8201 on Egypt ^H4714,

And they will know ^H3045 that I am the LORD ^H3068.”’”

Victory for Babylon

20 In the eleventh ^H259 H6240 year ^H8141, in the first ^H7223 month, on the seventh ^H7651 of the month ^H2320, the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559,

21 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, I have broken ^H7665 the arm ^H2220 of Pharaoh ^H6547 king ^H4428 of Egypt ^H4714; and, behold ^H2009, it has not been bound ^H2280 up ^H2280 [fn]for healing ^H7499 [fn]or wrapped ^H2280 with a bandage ^H2848, so that it may be strong ^H2388 to wield ^H8610 the sword ^H2719. 22 Therefore ^H3651 this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068 says ^H559: ‘Behold ^H2009, I am against ^H413 Pharaoh ^H6547 king ^H4428 of Egypt ^H4714, and I will break ^H7665 his arms ^H2220, both the strong ^H2389 and the broken ^H7665; and I will make the sword ^H2719 fall ^H5307 from his hand ^H3027. 23 And I will scatter ^H6327 the Egyptians ^H4714 among the nations ^H1471 and disperse ^H2219 them among the lands ^H776. 24 For I will strengthen ^H2388 the arms ^H2220 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 and put ^H5414 My sword ^H2719 in his hand ^H3027; and I will break ^H7665 the arms ^H2220 of Pharaoh ^H6547, so that he will groan ^H5008 before ^H6440 him with the groans ^H5009 of a wounded ^H2491 man ^H2491. 25 So I will strengthen ^H2388 the arms ^H2220 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894, but the arms ^H2220 of Pharaoh ^H6547 will fail ^H5307. Then they will know ^H3045 that I am the LORD ^H3068, when I put ^H5414 My sword ^H2719 into the hand ^H3027 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 and he reaches ^H5186 out ^H5186 with it against ^H413 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714. 26 When I scatter ^H6327 the Egyptians ^H4714 among the nations ^H1471 and disperse ^H2219 them among the lands ^H776, then they will know ^H3045 that I am the LORD ^H3068.’”
