Warning through Visions

1 This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 [fn]GOD ^H3068 showed ^H7200 me, and behold ^H2009, He was forming ^H3335 a swarm ^H1462 of ^H1462 locusts ^H1462 [fn]when the spring ^H3954 crop ^H3954 began ^H8462 to sprout ^H5927. And behold ^H2009, the spring ^H3954 crop ^H3954 was after ^H310 the king’s ^H4428 mowing ^H1488.

2 And it came ^H1961 about ^H1961, [fn]when ^H518 it had finished ^H3615 eating ^H398 the vegetation ^H6212 of the land ^H776, that I said ^H559,

“Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068, please ^H4994 pardon ^H5545!

How ^H4310 can Jacob ^H3290 stand ^H6965?

For he is small ^H6996.”

3 The LORD ^H3068 relented ^H5162 of this ^H2088.

“It shall not be,” said ^H559 the LORD ^H3068.

4 So ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068 showed ^H7200 me, and behold ^H2009, the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068 was calling ^H7121 to contend ^H7378 with them by fire ^H784, and it consumed ^H398 the great ^H7227 deep ^H8415 and began to consume ^H398 the [fn]farmland ^H2506. 5 Then I said ^H559,

“Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068, please ^H4994 stop ^H2308!

How ^H4310 can Jacob ^H3290 stand ^H6965?

For he is small ^H6996.”

6 The LORD ^H3068 relented ^H5162 of this ^H2088.

“This ^H1931 too ^H1571 shall not be,” said ^H559 the Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068.

7 So ^H3541 He showed ^H7200 me, and behold ^H2009, the Lord ^H136 was standing ^H5324 [fn]by a [fn]vertical ^H594 wall ^H2346 with a plumb ^H594 line ^H594 in His hand ^H3027. 8 And the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, “What ^H4100 do you see ^H7200, Amos ^H5986?” And I said ^H559, “A plumb ^H594 line ^H594.” Then the Lord ^H136 said ^H559,

“Behold ^H2009 I am about to put ^H7760 a plumb ^H594 line ^H594

In the midst ^H7130 of My people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478.

I will not [fn]spare ^H5674 them any ^H5750 longer ^H3254 H5750.

9 “The high ^H1116 places ^H1116 of Isaac ^H3327 will become ^H8074 deserted ^H8074,

And the sanctuaries ^H4720 of Israel ^H3478 will be in ruins ^H2717.

Then I will rise ^H6965 up ^H6965 against ^H5921 the house ^H1004 of Jeroboam ^H3379 with the sword ^H2719.”

Amos Accused; Gives an Answer

10 Then Amaziah ^H558, the priest ^H3548 of Bethel ^H1008, sent ^H7971 word to Jeroboam ^H3379 king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478, saying ^H559, “Amos ^H5986 has conspired ^H7194 against ^H5921 you in the midst ^H7130 of the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478; the land ^H776 is ^H3201 unable ^H3808 H3201 to endure ^H3557 all ^H3605 his words ^H1697.

11 For this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 Amos ^H5986 says ^H559: ‘Jeroboam ^H3379 will die ^H4191 by the sword ^H2719, and Israel ^H3478 will certainly ^H1540 go ^H1540 from its land ^H127 into ^H1540 exile ^H1540.’” 12 Then Amaziah ^H558 said ^H559 to Amos ^H5986, “Go ^H1980, you seer ^H2374, flee ^H1272 to the land ^H776 of Judah ^H3063; and eat ^H398 bread ^H3899 there ^H8033 and do your prophesying ^H5012 there ^H8033! 13 But do not prophesy ^H5012 at Bethel ^H1008 any ^H5750 longer ^H3254 H5750, for it is a sanctuary ^H4720 of the king ^H4428 and a royal ^H4467 [fn]residence ^H1004.”

14 Then Amos ^H5986 replied ^H6030 to Amaziah ^H558, “I am not a prophet ^H5030, nor ^H3808 am I the son ^H1121 of a prophet ^H5030; for I am a herdsman ^H951 and a [fn]grower ^H1103 of ^H1103 sycamore ^H8256 figs ^H1103. 15 But the LORD ^H3068 took ^H3947 me from [fn]following ^H310 the flock ^H6629, and the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, ‘Go ^H1980 prophesy ^H5012 to My people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478.’ 16 So now ^H6258 hear ^H8085 the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068: you are saying ^H559, ‘You shall not prophesy ^H5012 against ^H5921 Israel ^H3478 nor ^H3808 shall you [fn]prophesy ^H5197 against ^H5921 the house ^H1004 of Isaac ^H3327.’ 17 Therefore ^H3651, this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 says ^H559: ‘Your wife ^H802 will become ^H2181 a ^H2181 prostitute ^H2181 in the city ^H5892, your sons ^H1121 and your daughters ^H1323 will fall ^H5307 by the sword ^H2719, your land ^H127 will be parceled ^H2505 up ^H2505 by a measuring line ^H2256, and you yourself ^H859 will die ^H4191 [fn]upon unclean ^H2931 soil ^H127. Furthermore Israel ^H3478 will certainly ^H1540 go ^H1540 from its land ^H127 into ^H1540 exile ^H1540.’”
