Israel’s Last Days

1 Now it came ^H1961 about ^H1961 after ^H310 these ^H428 things ^H1697 that [fn]Joseph ^H3130 was told ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, your father ^H1 is ^H2470 sick ^H2470.” So he took ^H3947 his two ^H8147 sons ^H1121 Manasseh ^H4519 and Ephraim ^H669 with him.

2 When [fn]it was told ^H5046 to Jacob ^H3290, “Behold ^H2009, your son ^H1121 Joseph ^H3130 has come ^H935 to you,” Israel ^H3478 [fn]collected ^H2388 his strength ^H2388 and sat ^H3427 [fn]up in the bed ^H4296. 3 Then Jacob ^H3290 said ^H559 to Joseph ^H3130, “[fn]God ^H410 Almighty ^H7706 appeared ^H7200 to me at Luz ^H3870 in the land ^H776 of Canaan ^H3667 and blessed ^H1288 me, 4 and He said ^H559 to me, ‘Behold ^H2009, I will make ^H6509 you fruitful ^H6509 and numerous ^H7235, and I will make ^H5414 you a multitude ^H6951 of peoples ^H5971, and will give ^H5414 this ^H2088 land ^H776 to your [fn]descendants ^H2233 after ^H310 you as an everlasting ^H5769 possession ^H272.’ 5 Now ^H6258 your two ^H8147 sons ^H1121, who were born ^H3205 to you in the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 before ^H5704 I came ^H935 to you in Egypt ^H4714, are mine; Ephraim ^H669 and Manasseh ^H4519 shall be mine, as Reuben ^H7205 and Simeon ^H8095 are. 6 But your children ^H4138 that you have fathered ^H3205 after ^H310 them shall be yours; they shall be called ^H7121 by the [fn]names ^H8034 of their brothers ^H251 in their inheritance ^H5159. 7 Now as for me, when I came ^H935 from Paddan ^H6307, Rachel ^H7354 died ^H4191, [fn]to my sorrow ^H5921, in the land ^H776 of Canaan ^H3667 on the journey ^H1870, when there was still ^H5750 some ^H3530 distance ^H3530 H776 to go ^H935 to Ephrath ^H672. I buried ^H6912 her there ^H8033 on the way ^H1870 to Ephrath ^H672 (that is, Bethlehem ^H1035).”

8 When Israel ^H3478 saw ^H7200 Joseph’s ^H3130 sons ^H1121, he said ^H559, “Who ^H4310 are these ^H428?” 9 And Joseph ^H3130 said ^H559 to his father ^H1, “They are my sons ^H1121, whom ^H834 God ^H430 has given ^H5414 me here ^H2088.” So he said ^H559, “Bring ^H3947 them to me, please ^H4994, so that I may bless ^H1288 them.” 10 Now the eyes ^H5869 of Israel ^H3478 were ^H3513 so [fn]dim ^H3513 from age ^H2207 that he could ^H3201 not see ^H7200. And [fn]Joseph brought ^H5066 them close ^H5066 to him, and he kissed ^H5401 them and embraced ^H2263 them. 11 And Israel ^H3478 said ^H559 to Joseph ^H3130, “I never ^H3808 [fn]expected ^H6419 to see ^H7200 your face ^H6440, and behold ^H2009, God ^H430 has let me see ^H7200 your [fn]children ^H2233 as ^H1571 well ^H1571!” 12 Then Joseph ^H3130 [fn]took ^H3318 them from his knees ^H1290, and bowed ^H2331 with his face ^H639 to the ground ^H776. 13 And Joseph ^H3130 took ^H3947 them both ^H8147, Ephraim ^H669 with his right ^H3225 hand ^H3225 toward ^H4480 Israel’s ^H3478 left ^H8040, and Manasseh ^H4519 with his left ^H8040 hand ^H8040 toward ^H4480 Israel’s ^H3478 right ^H3225, and brought ^H5066 them close ^H5066 to him. 14 But Israel ^H3478 reached ^H7971 out ^H7971 his right ^H3225 hand ^H3225 and placed ^H7896 it on the head ^H7218 of Ephraim ^H669, who ^H1931 was the younger ^H6810, and his left ^H8040 hand ^H8040 on Manasseh’s ^H4519 head ^H7218, crossing ^H7919 his hands ^H3027, although ^H3588 Manasseh ^H4519 was the firstborn ^H1060. 15 And he blessed ^H1288 Joseph ^H3130, and said ^H559,

“The God ^H430 before ^H6440 whom ^H834 my fathers ^H1 Abraham ^H85 and Isaac ^H3327 walked ^H1980,

The God ^H430 who has been my shepherd ^H7462 [fn]all ^H4480 H5750 my life ^H5750 to this ^H2088 day ^H3117,

16 The angel ^H4397 who has redeemed ^H1350 me from all ^H3605 evil ^H7451,

Bless ^H1288 the boys ^H5288;

And may my name ^H8034 [fn]live ^H7121 on ^H7121 in them,

And the [fn]names ^H8034 of my fathers ^H1 Abraham ^H85 and Isaac ^H3327;

And may they grow ^H1711 into a multitude ^H7230 in the midst ^H7130 of the earth ^H776.”

17 When Joseph ^H3130 saw ^H7200 that his father ^H1 placed ^H7896 his right ^H3225 hand ^H3027 on Ephraim’s ^H669 head ^H7218, it displeased ^H7489 him; and he grasped ^H8551 his father’s ^H1 hand ^H3027 to move ^H5493 it from Ephraim’s ^H669 head ^H7218 to Manasseh’s ^H4519 head ^H7218. 18 And Joseph ^H3130 said ^H559 to his father ^H1, “Not so ^H3651, my father ^H1, for this ^H2088 one ^H2088 is the firstborn ^H1060. Place ^H7760 your right ^H3225 hand ^H3225 on his head ^H7218.” 19 But his father ^H1 refused ^H3985 and said ^H559, “I know ^H3045, my son ^H1121, I know ^H3045; he also ^H1571 will become ^H1961 a people ^H5971 and he also ^H1571 will be ^H1431 great ^H1431. However ^H199, his younger ^H6996 brother ^H251 shall be greater ^H1431 than ^H4480 he, and his [fn]descendants ^H2233 shall become ^H1961 [fn]a multitude ^H4393 of nations ^H1471.” 20 So he blessed ^H1288 them that day ^H3117, saying ^H559,

“By you Israel ^H3478 will pronounce ^H1288 blessing ^H1288, saying ^H559,

‘May God ^H430 make ^H7760 you like Ephraim ^H669 and Manasseh ^H4519!’”

And so he put ^H7760 Ephraim ^H669 before ^H6440 Manasseh ^H4519. 21 Then Israel ^H3478 said ^H559 to Joseph ^H3130, “Behold ^H2009, I am about to die ^H4191, but God ^H430 will be with you, and bring ^H7725 you back ^H7725 to the land ^H776 of your fathers ^H1. 22 And I give ^H5414 you one ^H259 [fn]portion ^H7926 more ^H5921 than ^H5921 your brothers ^H251, which ^H834 I took ^H3947 from the hand ^H3027 of the Amorite ^H567 with my sword ^H2719 and my bow ^H7198.”
