Ephraim’s Wrongdoing

1 When I would heal ^H7495 Israel ^H3478,

The wrongdoing ^H5771 of Ephraim ^H669 is uncovered ^H1540,

And the evil ^H7451 deeds ^H7451 of Samaria ^H8111,

For they practice ^H6466 deception ^H8267;

The thief ^H1590 enters ^H935,

A band ^H1416 of ^H1416 robbers ^H1416 attack ^H6584 outside ^H2351,

2 And they do not [fn]consider ^H559 in their hearts ^H3824

That I remember ^H2142 all ^H3605 their wickedness ^H7451.

Now ^H6258 their deeds ^H4611 surround ^H5437 them;

They are before ^H5048 My face ^H6440.

3 With their wickedness ^H7451 they make ^H8055 the king ^H4428 happy ^H8055,

And the officials ^H8269 with their lies ^H3585.

4 They are all ^H3605 adulterers ^H5003,

Like ^H3644 an oven ^H8574 heated ^H1197 by the baker ^H644,

Who stops ^H7673 [fn]stoking ^H5782 the fire

From the time the dough ^H1217 is kneaded ^H3888 until ^H5704 it is ^H2556 leavened ^H2556.

5 On the [fn]day ^H3117 of our king ^H4428, the officials ^H8269 became ^H2470 sick ^H2470 with the heat ^H2534 of wine ^H3196;

He stretched ^H4900 out ^H4900 his hand ^H3027 with [fn]scoffers ^H3887,

6 For their hearts ^H3820 are like an oven ^H8574

As they approach ^H7126 their [fn]plotting ^H696;

Their [fn]anger ^H644 [fn]smolders ^H3463 all ^H3605 night ^H3915,

In the morning ^H1242 it burns ^H1197 like flaming ^H3852 fire ^H784.

8 Ephraim ^H669 is himself ^H1931 thrown ^H1101 about ^H1101 with the [fn]nations ^H5971;

Ephraim ^H669 has become ^H1961 a round ^H5692 loaf ^H5692 not turned ^H2015 over ^H2015.

9 Strangers ^H2114 devour ^H398 his strength ^H3581,

Yet he does not know ^H3045 it;

Gray ^H7872 hairs ^H7872 also ^H1571 are sprinkled ^H2236 on him,

Yet he does not know ^H3045 it.

10 Though the pride ^H1347 of Israel ^H3478 testifies ^H6030 against ^H6440 him,

Yet they have not returned ^H7725 to the LORD ^H3068 their God ^H430,

Nor ^H3808 have they sought ^H1245 Him, despite all ^H3605 this ^H2088.

11 So Ephraim ^H669 has become ^H1961 like a gullible ^H6601 dove ^H3123, without ^H369 [fn]sense ^H3820;

They call ^H7121 to Egypt ^H4714, they go ^H1980 to Assyria ^H804.

12 When ^H834 they go ^H1980, I will spread ^H6566 My net ^H7568 over ^H5921 them;

I will bring ^H3381 them down ^H3381 like the birds ^H5775 of the sky ^H8064.

I will discipline ^H3256 them in accordance with the [fn]proclamation ^H8088 to their assembly ^H5712.

13 Woe ^H188 to them, for they have strayed ^H5074 from Me!

Destruction ^H7701 is theirs, for they have rebelled ^H6586 against Me!

I would redeem ^H6299 them, but they have spoken ^H1696 lies ^H3577 against ^H5921 Me.

14 And they do not cry ^H2199 to Me from their heart ^H3820

When ^H3588 they wail ^H3213 on their beds ^H4904;

For ^H5921 the ^H5921 sake ^H5921 of ^H5921 grain ^H1715 and new ^H8492 wine ^H8492 they [fn]assemble ^H1481 themselves,

They turn ^H5493 against Me.

15 Although I trained ^H3256 and strengthened ^H2388 their arms ^H2220,

Yet they devise ^H2803 evil ^H7451 against ^H413 Me.

16 They turn ^H7725, but not [fn]upward ^H5920,

They are like a loose ^H7423 bow ^H7198;

Their officials ^H8269 will fall ^H5307 by the sword ^H2719

Because ^H4480 of the [fn]insolence ^H2195 of their tongue ^H3956.

This ^H2097 will be their derision ^H3933 in the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714.
