Jesus Heals on the Sabbath

1 It happened ^G1096 that when ^G1722 He went ^G2064 into the house ^G3624 of one ^G5100 of the [fn]leaders ^G758 of the Pharisees ^G5330 on the Sabbath ^G4521 to eat ^G2068 bread ^G740, they were watching ^G3906 Him [fn]closely ^G3906.

2 And [fn]there ^G2400 in front ^G1715 of Him was a man ^G444 suffering ^G5203 from ^G5203 [fn]edema ^G5203. 3 And Jesus ^G2424 responded ^G611 and said ^G3004 to the [fn]lawyers ^G3544 and [fn]Pharisees ^G5330, “Is it lawful ^G1832 to heal ^G2323 on the Sabbath ^G4521, or ^G2228 not?” 4 But they kept ^G2270 silent ^G2270. And He took ^G1949 hold ^G1949 of him and healed ^G2390 him, and sent ^G630 him away ^G630. 5 And He said ^G3004 to them, “[fn]Which ^G5101 one of you will have a son ^G5207 or ^G2228 an ox ^G1016 fall ^G4098 into a well ^G5421, and will not immediately ^G2112 pull ^G385 him out ^G385 on a Sabbath ^G4521 day ^G2250?” 6 And they could ^G2480 offer ^G470 no ^G3756 reply ^G470 to this ^G3778.

Parable of the Guests

7 Now ^G1161 He began telling ^G3004 a parable ^G3850 to the invited ^G2564 guests ^G2564 when He noticed ^G1907 how ^G4459 they had been picking ^G1586 out ^G1586 the places ^G4411 of ^G4411 honor ^G4411 at the table, saying ^G3004 to them,

8 “Whenever ^G3752 you are invited ^G2564 by someone ^G5100 to a wedding ^G1062 feast ^G1062, do not [fn]take ^G2625 the place ^G4411 of ^G4411 honor ^G4411, for someone more ^G1784 distinguished ^G1784 than you may have been ^G1510 invited ^G2564 by him, 9 and the one who invited ^G2564 you [fn]both ^G2532 G846 will come ^G2064 and say ^G3004 to you, ‘Give ^G1325 your place ^G5117 to this ^G3778 person ^G3778,’ and then ^G5119 in disgrace ^G152 you will proceed ^G757 to occupy ^G2722 the last ^G2078 place ^G5117. 10 But whenever ^G3752 you are invited ^G2564, go ^G4198 and [fn]take ^G377 the last ^G2078 place ^G5117, so ^G2443 that ^G2443 when ^G3752 the one who has invited ^G2564 you comes ^G2064, he will say ^G3004 to you, ‘Friend ^G5384, move ^G4320 up ^G4320 higher ^G511’; then ^G5119 you will have honor ^G1391 in ^G1799 the ^G1799 sight ^G1799 of ^G1799 all ^G3956 who are [fn]dining ^G4873 at the table ^G4873 with you. 11 For everyone ^G3956 who exalts ^G5312 himself ^G1438 will be humbled ^G5013, and the one who humbles ^G5013 himself ^G1438 will be exalted ^G5312.”

12 Now ^G1161 He also ^G2532 went on to say ^G3004 to the one who had invited ^G2564 Him, “Whenever ^G3752 you give ^G4160 a luncheon ^G712 or ^G2228 a dinner ^G1173, do not invite ^G5455 your friends ^G5384, your brothers ^G80, your relatives ^G4773, nor ^G3366 wealthy ^G4145 neighbors ^G1069, otherwise ^G3379 they may also ^G2532 invite ^G479 you to a meal in ^G479 return ^G479, and that will be your [fn]repayment ^G468. 13 But whenever ^G3752 you give ^G4160 a [fn]banquet ^G1403, invite ^G2564 people ^G4434 who are poor ^G4434, who have ^G376 disabilities ^G376, who are limping ^G5560, and people ^G5185 who ^G5185 are ^G5185 blind ^G5185; 14 and you will be blessed ^G3107, since ^G3754 they [fn]do not have ^G2192 the means to repay ^G467 you; for you will be repaid ^G467 at the resurrection ^G386 of the righteous ^G1342.”

Parable of the Dinner

16 But He said ^G3004 to him, “A man ^G444 was giving ^G4160 a big ^G3173 dinner ^G1173, and he invited ^G2564 many ^G4183; 17 and at the dinner ^G1173 hour ^G5610 he sent ^G649 his slave ^G1401 to tell ^G3004 those ^G3588 who had been invited ^G2564, ‘Come ^G2064, because ^G3754 everything is ready ^G2092 now ^G2235.’ 18 And yet they all ^G3956 alike ^G575 G1520 began ^G757 to make ^G3868 excuses ^G3868. The first ^G4413 one ^G4413 said ^G3004 to him, ‘I purchased ^G59 a field ^G68 and I need ^G318 to go ^G1831 out ^G1831 to look ^G3708 at it; [fn]please ^G2065 consider ^G2192 me excused ^G3868.’ 19 And another ^G2087 one ^G2087 said ^G3004, ‘I bought ^G59 five ^G4002 yoke ^G2201 of oxen ^G1016, and I am going ^G4198 to try ^G1381 them out ^G1381; [fn]please ^G2065 consider ^G2192 me excused ^G3868.’ 20 And another ^G2087 one ^G2087 said ^G3004, ‘I took ^G1060 a woman ^G1135 as my wife ^G1060, and for that reason ^G1223 I cannot ^G1410 G3756 come ^G2064.’ 21 And the slave ^G1401 came ^G3854 back and reported ^G518 this ^G3778 to his master ^G2962. Discipleship Tested

25 Now ^G1161 [fn]large ^G4183 crowds ^G3793 were going ^G4848 along ^G4848 with Him, and He turned ^G4762 and said ^G3004 to them,

34 “Therefore ^G3767, salt ^G217 is good ^G2570; but if ^G1437 even ^G2532 salt ^G217 has become ^G3471 tasteless ^G3471, with what ^G5101 will it be [fn]seasoned ^G741? 35 It is useless ^G3777 G2111 either ^G3777 for the soil ^G1093 or ^G3777 the manure ^G2874 pile ^G2874, so it is thrown ^G906 out.
