Jhn 14:1-6—Spoken in the passover chamber: Jesus foretells his coming for his own. (Cf. 1Th 4:14-17.)

This promise of a second advent of Christ is to be distinguished from His return in glory to the earth; it is the first intimation in Scripture of "the day of Christ" (Scofield 1 Corinthians 1:8, note). Here He comes for His saints (1Th 4:14-17), there (e.g. Mat 24:29-30) He come to judge the nations, etc.

Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Comforter

Greek Parakletos, "one called alongside to help." Translated "advocate," 1Jo 2:1. Christ is the believer's Paraclete with the Father when he sins; the Holy Spirit the believer's indwelling Paraclete to help his ignorance and infirmity and to make intercession (Rom 8:26-27). (See "Holy Spirit," N.T. doctrine, Scofield Matthew 1:18; Acts 2:4.)
