εἶπεν δὲ Ιουδας Θαμαρ τῇ νύμφῃ αὐτοῦ κάθου χήρα ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρός σου ἕως μέγας γένηται Σηλωμ ὁ υἱός μου εἶπεν γάρ μήποτε ἀποθάνῃ καὶ οὗτος ὥσπερ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ ἀπελθοῦσα δὲ Θαμαρ ἐκάθητο ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς

فَقَالَ يَهُوذَا لِثَامَارَ كَنَّتِهِ: «اقْعُدِي أَرْمَلَةً فِي بَيْتِ أَبِيكِ حَتَّى يَكْبُرَ شِيلَةُ ابْنِي». لأَنَّهُ قَالَ: «لَعَلَّهُ يَمُوتُ هُوَ أَيْضًا كَأَخَوَيْهِ». فَمَضَتْ ثَامَارُ وَقَعَدَتْ فِي بَيْتِ أَبِيهَا.

فَقَالَ يَهُوذَا لِثَامَارَ كَنَّتِهِ: «امْكُثِي أَرْمَلَةً فِي بَيْتِ أَبِيكِ رَيْثَمَا يَكْبُرُ شِيلَةُ ابْنِي». لأَنَّهُ قَالَ: «لِئَلّا يَمُوتَ شِيلَةُ أَيْضاً كَمَا مَاتَ أَخَوَاهُ». فَمَضَتْ ثَامَارُ وَمَكَثَتْ فِي بَيْتِ أَبِيهَا.

Alors Juda dit à Tamar, sa belle-fille: Demeure veuve dans la maison de ton père, jusqu'à ce que Schéla, mon fils, soit grand. Il parlait ainsi dans la crainte que Schéla ne mourût comme ses frères. Tamar s'en alla, et elle habita dans la maison de son père.
